This is surreal...

OMG, can it get any deeper or more symmetrical? This is like a bad dream, like how stronger can this thing get? Looking at these loops compared to previous storms almost makes me feel like the pressure is way lower than people think, and the sustained winds are much higher

Was looking around Twitter updates (as usual when storms like this come) and many from Romblon and Gandara Samar are reporting stormy weather already. It's starting to get breezy here in Manila with light drizzles.

WOW!

Megi -175 knots
Haiyan- 165 knots...

and to think recon had 175 knots for megi...how much stronger is haiyan?
JTWC had Megi at 160 knots

No hype please

recon found 175 KT in Megi. JT is dead flat wrong on those winds. He's not hyping

I didn't mention JTWC i mentioned recon which found winds that high in their mission...

I hate to say it, but there is no reason to think this isn't one of the 5 or 10 strongest storms ever recorded on Earth.

Weather is terrible! Rains are heavy and winds are picking up here.

If you have Twitter, you can go check for updates. I search for the keywords ("Yolanda, Haiyan, hangin, ulan, windy, rainy, etc..) then the reports will show up. I saw one post from Aklan complaining about the lack of strong wind, even questioning PAGASA's competence and all. I don't know about that but I hope his house is sturdy enough for tomorrow...

I belive Monica maintained CI8.0 until landfall but that's from the old version of ADT

Angela weakened due to eyewall replacement before landfall and Zeb was not a T8.0 storm

So technically there's never been one :P

Haiyan has a potential to become the 2nd Billion dollar typhoon of the Philippines. Bopha being the 1st one..
we are witnessing a historical weather phenomena... this must be the weather event of the year...

is Dr. Ryan Maue's website updated??? ACE is just 16+ points?

I remember watching Nida grow into something like this (yea but this one is way more classic), but it was more enjoyable seeing it traversing open waters....unlike this one...

Probably because Cebu's very urbanized, and has a lot of tall buildings. Also that it has a high density [population].
