It also makes me think - that outer band is incredibly strong as well in terms of convection, that could create big problems before the main event...

On the Dvorak images, is there a color level below cold dark grey?

Here in Cebu, it was unusually calm. But rains are currently picking up! Pressure is at 997.5 hPa!

but I will still pick Haiyan over Nida.

The difference is that Haiyan has three bulletin analyzed at T8.0, Nida only got two T7.5 bulletin

No comparison here either, perhaps only Gay could stand with Haiyan

I would bee surprised if there is not 1-min sustained winds of 200 mph within the eyewall

If you have not evacuated yet, You should go now.

In terms of damage, there's no big difference between 190 mph and 200 mph winds. Both are capable of causing death and flattening houses.

Megi vs. Haiyan. No comparison.

WOW!

Megi -175 knots
Haiyan- 165 knots...

and to think recon had 175 knots for megi...how much stronger is haiyan?

JTWC had Megi at 160 knots

No hype please.

recon found 175 KT in Megi. JT is dead flat wrong on those winds. He's not hyping

We are looking at a piece of modern-era tropical cyclone history with this one in terms of pressures and strength at landfall.

TWC just said "This is the strongest storm on Earth since Hurricane Allen in 1980".

Sigh.

I base "strongest" on a different scale then. It seems no one wants to go past 170kt. So therefore I will base strongest on either pressure, or better yet Dvorak or ADT.
