I saw something I haven't seen in months - water running off, not being absorbed by the ground. AMAZING.

Alright ... so quit griping already!

Besides, there will probably be several snow/ice events this winter which you'll cash in on while I'm building my cold rainman down here in Austin!

Shoot, if griping gets me 1.5" of rain - I'll gripe some more!

Could see my breath fairly easily walking the dog in post frontal rain. Winter is just around the corner!

Looks like the pump is primed from the previous rain events in the LCRA watershed. Not flooding, but at least steady flows into the lakes. :) Oh, and it's 54 degrees! :cold: :ggreen:

River Operations Report - Water Supply Operations
Current Operations and Conditions Last Update: 10/16/2013 6:59 AM
Over the last 24 hours widespread rain totals of 1 to 4+ inches have fallen over the Hill Country and Central Texas. While this steady rain has not translated into any significant stream flow rises, it will build off the rain event from the last weekend to keep streams and tributaries flowing at or above baseflow levels which in turn will provide steady inflows to the Highland Lakes over the next several days.

Well, so much for the flash flood threat. We did get about an inch of rain at the PWC since midnight, most of it falling between 5:30-7:30 a.m. Only thing I can figure is that the 850mb front was moving quicker than the models anticipated. There was never that massive blob of heavy rain which we sometimes see along a slow-moving front which is enhanced by Gulf moisture and a Pacific cyclone.

All in all ... it's all good! The grass and trees and plants and flowers are really looking as good as they have for a loooong time in the Austin area!

Any rain is good. But it would be nice if the next event has the higher totals from the metroplex north to the Red River. The area lakes are not seeing much response from these rains due to the ground soaking it up. We need the excessive run-off to start putting some water back. I'm doing my part by shutting off my sprinklers for the rest of the year. The foundation should be fine and I'm ready for the grass to succumb to cold weather dormancy. :)

What Portastorm said.

Oh, and I had 0.7 inches in the gauge before I left for work and it was still raining. Good hot cocoa weather! :cheesy:

It won't be long now before Captin Crunch offers his Halloween/Dallas weather analog. For those of you unaware of this, and simply put, if Dallas is cold on Halloween the odds of a colder-than-normal winter are higher than not. If the Big ends up with a warm Halloween ... perhaps a warmer-than-normal winter.

If this 12z Euro run (240 hours) verifies ... then you folks in the Big D could be in for a Portastorm Weather Center-kind of winter!! Look at that cold air coming down the Plains! :cheesy:

That's still indicating only upper 40s for Dallas area and low 50s for Houston at 240hrs. I do need a temperature of around 43 with a high of only 64 for our October forecast contest. Just one day like that, though. The rest can be warm.

Well here in Windom we got alittle over 4 inches the last few days.. Most of the rain was a slow rain which is better than heavy.. soil is looking good out here its not just sucking up all the water.. I got my truck stuck out in the pasture yesterday which i havnt done in awhile. all in all it was a good rain and the texoma mets are talking about alittle more rain this weekend and next week. I cant wait till we are talking about snow!!!! We have had snow every year for the last 3 years and not just a dusting i mean over 7 inches at a time.. hopefull for a big snow storm this year!!! But the farmers around here fear we may get a nasty ice storm. They say we are due... well i got to get back to shampooing the carpets,, i drank to much shine and walking into the house with muddy boots lol she is pissed!!

6.3 inches over the past week at my place. Greener than it has looked in months around town. Every drop of rain that falls now will run off. There is water slowly seeping up from ground through cracks in the street gully by our house. Happened several years ago after soaking rains. Water is flowing steadily into the Highland Lakes. I cranked on my house heater for the first time this season today. I had to make sure it still worked! :P
Anyway, been a nice week! :ggreen:

2 inches at my house in SA in the past week. Most of it was a slow, steady, and soaking rain. I'm very happy and thankful! :D
