Yes, Frances in 1980.
"1980 - Hurricane Frances intensified into a Category 3 hurricane further south and east than any other storm on record, doing so at 29.8°W."

It's got the look now. Nice symmetry and banding. LLC most likely tucking under the convection now, though we need more microwave sat to find out.

Hurricane Julia (2010)?
Oh-so-close. Julia reached MH status around 31W.

This one has a shot at getting somewhere high on that list. To clarify, high on the list of easternmost Majors, IF it makes major of course.

Thats where the center was in the last microwave pass. NHC's latest position is a tad bit further west (-25.9)

Outflow looks like its finally expanding in all directions and the convection is beginning to curl around. I guess I shall have crow for breakfast.

Would be quite frustrating if it won't reach major status after the long wait.

I don't know - it's still dealing with easterly shear and an eye-type feature has not been visible so far, so we'll see...
P.S. Does anyone have a current image - I can't find one on the NHC site...
Thanks

Re: ATL: HUMBERTO - Tropical Storm - Discussion
Interesting photo - it appears the MLC and LLC are not vertically stacked, but that might be just my interpretation (one looks to be the south (or north) of the other)...
If that's true then it might have a hard time reaching hurricane status - we'll see...

IR makes it appear like it is gulping dry air. Could bust and remain a TS.
