A really big favour
You guys have seen me posting for a few days now and know I fully intend to experience Isabel first hand. I have booked the next two weeks off work, saved the cash and am just waiting to see what happens. I will be able to booka flight at a moments notice. Now heres the big question, does anyone who may be near/ in the path who plans to stay and experience it fancy meeting up? I would much rather meet up with someone more experienced with these storms than me. I am more used to smaller scale mesoscale developements experienced when your storm chasing and huntiing tornadoes but I know this somewhat different. I have total respect for mother nature but at the same time must experiene the worst she has to offer.
Many thanks
Matthew

only if you bring a couple of cases of beer and about 20 gallons of water to help survive the aftermath

Beer I hear is an essential ingredient! I will however help out with whatever plans and supplies are required - no problem at all. Some may say I am foolhardy and for those who dont want to experience this should prepare to make plans. I on the other hand will be coming over!!!!
we will see next week..i live a mile off fort laud beach and they lock the bridges down so its a short walk over...long way to go to see if south florida is a direct hit...we have been down this road many times in the last five years only to have it fall apart or curve away so i wouldnt be bokking any plane tickets anywhere

Well it woudl really depend on where this pretty makes landfall. I doubt I'd be able to offer since I'm in Houston and no one things it'll mke it here- but it's really still such an unpredictable storm that it could land anywhere from mexico to new england. Maybe you should ask again when we've got some deffinate strike probabilities going?

I will opera but I have been planning this for 5 years but 5 years ago I did not belong to this board. I find all of you so experience far more than me and I just need to test the water so to speak. Problem for me is I am flying to Jersey in the Channel Islands on Saturday and flying back Tuesday morning. I need to really think ahead on this one!!!

I think Va Beach has as good as shot as anyone this far out to get hit.....though I doubt a direct hit will occur here, but say the storm comes ashore near FL then takes the north route on the coast, we will still get just as nasty than anyone...so yes Im serious...come on down and dont forget my UK version of Delirous...

I would love to travel to see it but. I have a brother-in-law in Daytona that would need to evac to his family to my house if it was going to hit there. They had to evac with floyd and it was a mess. Only 1 highway east to west from daytona, highway 40 and 60 miles to our city. That 1 hour trip took 7 hours. Now it might be easier to go towards the evac zone but not something I would like to do. Now afterwards I might take the metal detector over to the beach and see what got stirred up.

Chaser,
You do realize you're most likely going to be stuck wherever you park it for the storm, without electricity, for several days following landfall, don't you? Icky humidity, no air conditioning, curfews, closed roads ...
I just wanted you to be aware that you aren't likely to be free to roam around as you please as if you're chasing a tornado or something.

Chaser,
Good luck with getting to the storm. I'd offer my help, but I am in Louisiana and the odds may be slim that she gets into the gulf. All I can say is bring your supplies with you there won't be a flashlight or a canned good within a 100 mile radius of where she makes landfall. If this is your one shot at it time it when you know where she will go. And if you happen to get under the eye be CAREFUL, and take beautiful pictures.

Agua and zoeyann - thank you both for your very kind words and very useful advice! I have been into severe weather for such a long time I know conditions afterwards will be difficult. However, the way I see it, I will be an extra pair of hands to help out in the clear up and I guess I might need to bring another suitcase with my supplies! - I would not want to be a burden to anyone! Hey Hurricanedude - excellent - make sure we keep in touch yes!?

Well supplies would be easier to come by in the UK rather than close to the storm. There is nothing I could say that would change your mind, but I do find it funny that you are running to something I would run from if it was on my door step. (especailly with my children) But I would hate to here of something tragic happening to you so just take the necessary precautions and keep everyone posted.
