Sounds ridiculous IMO.

Someone found out about it today before the press release and then that article was made once it was official. The 25 and 30-day forecast was scorned hugely by the weather community and AccuWeather's response? Make a 45-day product.
Its already been shown its worse sometimes than climatology by mets doing their own studies so AccuWeather is just kidding themselves. No, we don't know the exact inch amount of rain to the hundredth on September 18 in Atlanta GA...
I agree with that one comment in the article, will the names of the mets involved in this be published (110 meteorologists who "back this product")? I bet never.

Re: Accuweather: 45-Day Forecasts
45 day is not going to be accurate, let alone 3 days. Might as well issue a 365 day forecast.

Seems like a short-range forecast to me. We are working with a prospect that needs an 18-month hourly temperature forecast - a forecast issued in June of hourly temps for the following year.

Day 45:
Tropical storm conditions likely...hurricane conditions possible. Winds 50 to 60 mph in the morning, becoming 65 to 75 mph in the afternoon. Gusts up to 100 mph possible.
Mark you calendars VA Beach, VA! Very windy with a little rain around 9/20. Looks like a system maybe close to that area around then. It's still a few days early but they will be refining this to be more specific as to hurricane/tropical storm or maybe just Northeaster impacts as we get just a little bit closer I am sure.
or better yet, pay them a few dollars and subscribe and get the lowdown now LOL

The 45 day forecast could work out for Florida in the summer. "Partly cloudy, hot & humid, chance for an afternoon thunderstorm"

So, how much markup do you put on NCDC's hourly normals?wxman57 wrote:Seems like a short-range forecast to me. We are working with a prospect that needs an 18-month hourly temperature forecast - a forecast issued in June of hourly temps for the following year.

But seriously, on your forecasts, what skill have you shown? Sounds like an interesting effort, if a bit niche.
