Great info Perry!!!

It's interesting to see how all of the major hurricanes that hit New York and New England were 1960 and before. That's over 40 years folks and the odds just keep getting higher and higher each year! :o

Great info, Perry. By looking at that data, I would say that it is extremely rare for MD, DE or NJ to be hit by a major hurricane (none since 1846).

Thanks. I've got to say, I've always been under the impression that Mississippi has received a high number of storms per mile of coastline. I don't know what the exact miles are for each of those states but that pretty much confirms it.

Perry, great post!
DE hasnt had any major canes, but we have had several non-majors since 1851:
here is a list:
OCT 1878 CAT1
AUG 1879 CAT2
AUG 1893 CAT1
SEPT 1893 CAT1
OCT 1894 CAT1
AUG 1933 CAT1
SEPT 1936 CAT2
SEPT 1944 CAT1
AUG 1953 BARBARA CAT1
OCT 1954 HAZEL CAT1
AUG 1960 DONNA CAT2
OCT 1985 GLORIA CAT1/2
AUG 1986 CHARLEY CAT1
SEPT 1999 FLOYD CAT1/TROPICAL STORM
I Think the 1879 or 1936 canes may have been very weak cat3's when the impacted de, but i cant be sure

Thanks for that post! That's pretty impressive to see that 20 majors have hit Louisiana and it's probably only has 1/3 of the coastline of Texas.

 Great post...it blew my theory, I was always under the impression that the galveston area, after the first cool front, was pretty much safe. Guess I was wrong.
