Official forecast..

Areas of blowing dust. Sunny, with a high near 77. Very windy, with a northwest wind 32 to 40 mph, with gusts as high as 55 mph.

Saw the video out of Amarillo and I'd definitely NOT like to be there. I'd much rather be down in the lower RGV where you are. That's an interesting Euro 10-day forecast of a deep upper level low moving across southern GA. Mighty cold for spring-breakers there in Florida the first week of March.

AREA FORECAST DISCUSSION
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE FORT WORTH TX
350 PM CST MON FEB 25 2013

.DISCUSSION...
POWERFUL WINTER STORM CONTINUES TO MOVE THROUGH THE SOUTHERN
PLAINS THIS AFTERNOON RESULTING IN PRIMARILY A WIND EVENT ACROSS
NORTH TEXAS...BUT SOME WINTRY WEATHER IS EXPECTED THROUGH THIS
EVENING FOR PARTS OF THE AREA. LATEST SURFACE ANALYSIS SHOWS THE
CENTER OF THE SURFACE LOW NEAR EL DORADO ARKANSAS WHERE 3 HOUR
PRESSURE FALLS ARE IN EXCESS OF 7MB. PRESSURE FALLS EXTEND ALL THE
WAY WESTWARD TOWARD WICHITA FALLS WHERE A SURFACE TROUGH HAS
PERSISTED ALL DAY. THESE PERSISTENT PRESSURE FALLS ARE AN
INDICATION THAT THE ENTIRE UPPER STORM SYSTEM IS DEEPENING. WATER
VAPOR IMAGERY SHOWS A WELL DEFINED CIRCULATION WHICH APPEARS TO
NOW BE MOVING DUE EAST TOWARD THE BEST SURFACE PRESSURE FALLS.
THIS IS CONCERNING BECAUSE SUBSTANTIAL WRAP AROUND PRECIPITATION
DRIVEN BY FRONTOGENETICAL FORCING WILL LIKELY TRACK FARTHER SOUTH
THAN EARLIER ANTICIPATED. SHORT TERM HIGH RESOLUTION GUIDANCE
APPEARS TO HAVE SOMEWHAT OF A HANDLE ON THE MOVEMENT OF THE UPPER
SYSTEM BUT PRECIPITATION IS QUICKLY ERODED DUE TO STRONG
SUBSIDENCE. MESOSCALE FRONTOGENETICAL FORCING IS LIKELY TO WIN OUT
AT LEAST FOR A FEW HOURS ON THE BACK SIDE OF THE SYSTEM RESULTING
IN PRECIPITATION ACROSS MAINLY THE NORTHWEST COUNTIES THROUGH MIDNIGHT.

CONCERNING THE PRECIPITATION...FORECAST SOUNDINGS FROM BOTH THE
HIGH RES 3KM TTU WRF AND RAP MODEL SUGGEST THAT THE THERMAL
PROFILE WILL BE SUFFICIENTLY COLD FOR SNOWFALL PRODUCTION
GENERALLY NORTH OF INTERSTATE 20 THROUGH LATE TONIGHT...DESPITE
THE WARM SURFACE TEMPERATURES. INITIAL CONVECTIVE SHOWERS
NORTHEAST OF THE METROPLEX SHOULD REMAIN ALL LIQUID. GIVEN THE
POTENTIAL FOR SNOWFALL...ALONG WITH STRONG GUSTY WINDS...HAVE
ISSUED A SHORT DURATION WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY FOR THE FAR
NORTHWEST COUNTIES THROUGH MIDNIGHT. WITH WARM GROUND TEMPERATURES
AND GENERALLY ABOVE FREEZING SURFACE TEMPERATURES...EXPECT ANY
ACCUMULATIONS TO BE CONFINED TO GRASSY SURFACES. THE PRIMARY
CONCERN WILL BE FOR BLOWING SNOW WHICH COULD REDUCE VISIBILITY TO
LESS THAN 1/2 MILE AT TIMES. ROADS SHOULD REMAIN IN GOOD SHAPE.

THE OTHER MAIN CONCERN IS WINDS THROUGH LATE TONIGHT. WITH THE
CENTER OF THE SURFACE LOW NEARBY FOR MUCH OF THE AFTERNOON...WINDS
HAVE GENERALLY BEEN HIGHEST ACROSS THE SOUTHERN COUNTIES WHERE
GUSTS TO 54 MPH HAVE BEEN REPORTED. WITH THE SURFACE LOW NOW
MOVING EAST...THE PRESSURE GRADIENT WILL CONTINUE TO TIGHTEN
THROUGH EVENING. THE STRONGEST LOW LEVEL JET WILL BE CENTERED
ACROSS THE AREA RIGHT AROUND MIDNIGHT SO IT APPEARS THAT THE
STRONGEST WINDS ACROSS MUCH OF THE REGION ARE STILL TO COME.
ONE LIMITING FACTOR TO STRONGER WINDS WILL BE THE FACT THAT IT
WILL BE NIGHT WHEN THE STRONGEST WINDS ALOFT ARE OVERHEAD. THE CURRENT
WIND ADVISORY WILL REMAIN IN EFFECT THROUGH 4 AM FOR ALL OF NORTH
TEXAS.

WITH THE ENTIRE SYSTEM MOVING TO THE NORTHEAST TOMORROW...SKIES
SHOULD CLEAR AND WINDS WILL DIMINISH. A COUPLE OF REINFORCING
FRONTS...ONE ON WEDNESDAY AND ANOTHER LATE THURSDAY NIGHT...WILL
KEEP TEMPERATURES COOL THROUGH THE WEEK. NO SIGNIFICANT CHANGES TO
THE EXTENDED FORECAST AS IT APPEARS THAT IT WILL REMAIN DRY
THROUGH THE PERIOD.

A friend just told me that she has 17" of snow at her house in Amarillo and it's still snowing. She managed to make it to work and was sent right back home.

Wind has picked up drastically in the last few minutes. Been gusting over 40mph for sure. Surprised that American stopped many flights out of austin, maybe they fly the smaller jets there? Bigger jets can handle this wind, its just not fun thats for sure. I hate landing in the wind.

Landed last year april ahead of a low pressure similar to this with winds gusting to 35. Plane was rocking on the way in...

Wow ... just caught word that Austin emergency management officials have opened up their center due to the chaos the wind is creating. Also have debris flying around downtown with warnings being issued for persons walking around downtown to use extreme caution.

So far the highest gusts in the metro area are in the low 50s. Sustained winds still 20-30 mph. Unfortunately some large grass fires are popping up as well.

I was just at http://www.ci.austin.tx.us/fact/default.cfm and there are a lot of reports about arcing wires, wires down etc. Weather Channel just talked to someone at Austin Energy and they are saying 18,000+ without power right now.

A lot of us missed out on the rain again. This is getting old. Less than .50 inch of rain this month in SA and none in the forecast for at least the next 5 days. :( I really hope we have a much wetter March.

If your brother is in Springbrook, I am in the neigborhood right across Pflugerville Parkway from him. Don't see any fences down here but I now have shingles in my front yard, backyard, driveway and the street in front of my house. Has to be the neighbors, I inspected my roof and am only missing one.

There are fences down on Cranston (Springbrook) and I just went out to check our roof and saw that fences down next door to us and next door to them. We have a section waving wildly that may not hold up.

Those of you who were saying the NWSFW were 0 for 3
Well I had a pretty good shot of rain this morning, now the wind is really blowing 25-30 sustained and gust to 51 measured by myself and rain mixed with light snow here.

There is another area of precip moving this way later this evening, down to 35° now .

Pretty much 3 for 3 where I'm at, not everyone will experience the same weather hence the percent chance they normally use

Droughts has a dangerous downside when it comes to disease carrying mosquitoes. West Nile Virus was a problem last summer due to drought and accompanying heat wave.

As is customary, the wrap around moisture disappears from the radar as the storm moves off the high plain. Winter cancel.

Snowed all day, no accumulations. Done with winter. We had a pretty decent Xmas snow storm but that's been about it. Until next year.

:flag: No shingles in my yard. Just a downed free standing bench swing (always falls over in a front) and a few tree branches down from trees in the neighboring woods. Still howling on occasion. Highest gust here around 14mph today, but there are a lot of trees/homes in the area to block/absorb the major wind forces. Oh, and I found my trash can in my neighbors yard, I think(?). :)

Oh well. I miss rain.

The one BIG plus we had this "winter" - we actually had a few hard freezes. That will help some with mosquito control. Last "winter" we didn't.
