On that tropical storm Don, Whatever the reason. I had NEVER seen that happen before. It went poof in a matter of hours.

Looking at the overnight models, I'd be comfortable saying that areas along and north of I-20 will see some wrap-around flurries/light snow showers.
Hopefully it ends up being more than that, though! I am ready for a surprise or two.

I think it's going to come farther South than advertised, if so we could
have a little fun around here.

The 12z GFS is rolling in now (thru 72 hrs) and the 500mb low looks a little bit slower and a little bit further south than the 0z run.

Re: Texas Winter 2012-2013
Based on what I'm seeing from the morning model runs and NWSFO discussions, I think anyone in the northern portion of the South Plains of Texas into the entire Panhandle is going to have some BIG winter fun tomorrow! Blizzard or near blizzard conditions. My son is a freshman at Tech and, growing up in Austin, will have never seen the kind of weather he's going to see late tonight into tomorrow in Lubbock. I'm excited for him ... and jealous!
Meanwhile, I still am sticking with my thought that folks in the northern parts of the Metroplex may see some flurries or sleet before all is said and done with this system. I will not let wxman57 and his evil, heat-loving hoodoo powers sway me from this forecast!

Well, it IS trending in that direction. Just hard to say if that trend will stop now or reverse or stay static. You probably noticed that Blizzard Warnings were extended further south overnight and the Lubbock area is now expecting 1-2 inches of snow whereas last night they didn't. The storm is still developing and still digging.
Meanwhile, I see that Denver's airport is now closed due to deteriorating weather.

Indeed I did, let's hope it digs until it reaches central Texas!

Re: Texas Winter 2012-2013
It's a bit hard to tell using the Penn State EWall site for the CMC as the resolution isn't so hot ... but it does appear to me that the 12z CMC shows the 500mb vorticity digging a little further south in Texas than what the 0z run showed. It doesn't appear to be anything significant but it seems as if that's the case. I'd be curious to see what others here are thinking on that run.

The 12z EURO has at least light wrap around snow for north and northeast Texas, maybe more. However, I'm not sure if it will be cold enough to stick or not. It tracks the surface from just east of Brownsville, Texas to near Jonesboro, Arkansas. That track should give my area a pretty decent amount of wrap around moisture.

Tropical Storm Don fizzled because of dry air from the surface to the upper part of atmosphere over Texas, which during the 2011 Drought.

Looks like another big snow event in the Midwest. They could use the snow to dent the drought.

Going in the right direction
Light snow is now in the forecast for the Dallas area Monday night. Now it just needs to track a little further south.
NWS DFW

NWS DFW
ALTHOUGH MOST OF THE PRECIP WILL END WITH THE PASSAGE OF THE COLD
FRONT...SOME WRAP AROUND LIGHT PRECIPITATION WILL FILL IN ON THE
BACK SIDE OF THE DEPARTING UPPER LOW. IT APPEARS THAT THE RED
RIVER COUNTIES WILL HAVE THE BEST CHANCE OF SEEING SOME LIGHT SNOW
LATE MONDAY AFTERNOON/MONDAY NIGHT. SURFACE TEMPERATURES SHOULD
REMAIN ABOVE FREEZING DURING THE EVENING AND ONLY LIGHT
ACCUMULATIONS...LESS THAN ONE INCH ARE EXPECTED. FURTHER
SOUTH...INCLUDING THE INTERSTATE 20 CORRIDOR...THE RAIN MAY MIX
WITH SOME LIGHT SNOW MAINLY MONDAY EVENING BUT NO ACCUMULATIONS
ARE EXPECTED. ALTHOUGH SHORT RANGE MODELS ARE IN VERY GOOD
AGREEMENT ON THE MOVEMENT OF THE UPPER LOW...ANY SLIGHT DEVIATION
FURTHER SOUTH COULD IMPACT THE FORECAST...RESULTING IN A BETTER
CHANCE FOR ACCUMULATING SNOW IN THE NORTH. THEREFORE...CAREFUL
ANALYSIS OF THIS SYSTEM WILL CONTINUE THROUGH THE NIGHT.

Upper level system has dug about as far south as it's going to. Don't see much rain for central Texas, just the wind.
