It is frigid it Canada! We're talking mid-winter type cold and the expanse is huge and it's been there for a long time. With that kind of bitter cold who needs Siberia. We need a dislodging mechanism because it means business! Come on PNA!

I am not a meteorologist, and any posts made by me are not official forecasts or to be interpreted as being intelligent. These posts are just my opinions and are probably silly opinions.

We would be in some SERIOUS deep trouble if that happened. The lowest temperature Houston has ever seen was 5 degrees....

The coldest temperature ever recorded in Houston was 5 °F (−15 °C) on January 23, 1930.

Portastorm wrote:Thanks for posting weatherdude. Shame on me, I broke the rule of posting a "Fall" weather item in the "Winter" thread as I mentioned that last paragraph of EWX's AFD this afternoon.

Encouraging word though, right?!

BUSTED! :P

Is encouraging! :) However, I'll believe it when I experience it! But I'm more interested in RAIN than cold at this point anyway. But, cold reduces evaporation rates. In any case, it is easier on the vegetation to have moisture in the subsoil before a freeze.

It's official. Bob Rose put this in his blog today:

"Austin will close out 2012 with zero rainfall, equaling the record for the driest November on record set in 1861, 1994 and 1897."

LOL too nasty I know but the thought of Texan's shaking in their boots and growing goosebumps over the thought of -20F appeals to me (and hey you didn't need your A/C for a few minutes there). However if that happened I'd truly believe your saying a barb wire fence is all that is between you and the Arctic (we say that too but here it is a reality). IF it did however I can guarantee your fire ant problem would disappear.....as would a whole lot of other pests).

Hope a Blue Norther makes it down there soon (but that it bypasses my location on its journey).

Here in coastal Tampa Bay, we have had a whopping 4/10" (.42") TOTAL since Oct 2, including that rainfall mentioned on Nov 7th. Three hours of rainfall in two months, so I empathize. It is very dry around here. Everything is showing stress now, lots of brown. Anything coming our way? Summer rains were deluges. Now the faucet shut off.
