It will be interesting if there are changes or not to what the Porta Weather Center had as forecast a while back after the new developments about no El Nino for the winter 2012-2013 that CPC has in the new forecast that came out on November 8th.

I thought about wearing my ski goggles but my wife (from Chicago) wouldn't ride with me.

My long-range specialist here at work appears very sad at the prospect of a more zonal pattern emerging and no El Nino this winter. "Thanksgiving could well be warm", he said. He loves cold weather. Sounds like great news to me.

The Grey Goose-swilling mets at the Portastorm Weather Center still insist that a weak Nino will prevail for at least the first half of this winter. That was part our forecast. I still think we will see a winter storm threat for Texas before Christmas.

But I concur that more of a zonal-type flow will prevail after this next front per what wxman57's long-range guy says. We could see a change to colder around or just after Turkey Day.

A warm Thanksgiving sounds good to me too. So 57, you own ski goggles? Does this mean you are a skier? I thought you hated cold weather...I'm having trouble seeing you on a pair of skis, though you were a fair weather biker.....MGC

Just how many cases of Grey goose were delivered to the PWC? :cheesy: :ggreen: Sticking to my guns on this Winter. PWC may be correct about a Winter Storm threat before Christmas. We seem to have at least one threat per year. I honestly hope I am wrong after last years Winter that wasn't.

Latest November forecast from Jamstec for DJF. Not too different for our area from it's previous forecast. One big change is the west, it's now pointing to a +PNA and falls more in line with the analogs.

I've been skiing 4-5 times, all in Colorado. The cold isn't so bad when you're having fun. Back in 1989 I was in Winterpark for the big Arctic outbreak. On the first morning of skiing, the temperature reached -42F. But there wasn't a trace of wind and not a cloud in the sky. Had to cover up all body parts I wanted to keep. By noon the temperature was a blistering -5F so we had lunch outside halfway up the mountain. Unzipped our coats to cool down. No ice needed for our drinks. ;-)

Here's a shot of me skiing in Winterpark last year:

My cold-mongering coworker is talking about a pattern change that may bring some cold Canadian air to Texas by early December. Hope he's wrong. Check out the latest 10-day GFS 500mb flow. Big change from today. Lots of cold air flowing south from the Polar region:

When the HeatMiser posts photos of himself skiing and references his long-range winter guy colleague who is possibly bullish on a cold air outbreak ... we have confirmation, I repeat, we have confirmation. All Systems Go!! :cheesy: :cold:

As vbhoutex recovers from the bump on his head from the swoon caused by reading a wxman57 imposter post, I hereby stand corrected!! I have seen enough new evidence in other posts and sites to stand in agreement with the earlier predictions of an anti-wxman57 winter forecast for our area. The stepdown does appear to have commenced, but we shall see if it sustains itself. The gloom and doom no el nino group got me this time. I shall not be fooled again!!

The PWC might want to issue a "bears watch."

I want to hear Wxman57 state ( like he did on the KHOU forum nearly 2 years ago before cold airmass dropped us from 38 to 27 in an hour!!), "this one is gonna hurt". Then I will believe him. :)

That's unlikely with the airmass in late November as there is no snowpack to our north (yet). Euro suggests a big Great Lakes storm in 9 days. Such a storm could drive cold air south into Texas (colder than I'd like).

May Houston see snow cover like this:
http://www.theweathernetwork.com/your_weather/details/620/8628823/1/cask0210/plpcities/787/
(what it looks like around here now......but is melting fast). New stuff supposedly on the way (with cold to follow). But I gather the East will be helping you folks more this year (I did say my fans were struggling this year). Edit I just saw your fave Tx weatherman's post......might get those fans of mine some new parts after all. :D

And you have to remember that line from the movie Fright Night:

I will be keeping an eye on next week. Here in Denton we are doing our yearly downtown square tree lighting next Friday.
