We were at Delta Downs and we could see a rain shower North of Orange but when we got home not a drop at our house. We were driving right toward it and it was like it vanished.

That is what has been happening all afternoon. Like waving a magic wand...

I really thought we would get some rain. Some medium size brances down around town but not much other than that. We saw 1 small tree down in Vinton and a rainbow.

Well, I guess you missed it somehow. Not only would MBryant not lie about a rainshower, but I saw it on my PYKL3 and Weatherbug radars when I was checking radar earlier from my phone.

Our street is flooding now. We moved all the furniture from the lower rooms. If it doesn't stop raining, it will be inside. It looks like its up to the doors of the people across the street. Right now we are between rain bands. Maybe it will go down some.

I swear the satellite image looks like its moving east. Somebody tell me I'm wrong.

Side note: Haven't seen this much mist since TS Lee last year and that makes me wonder. Why do tropical systems often contain very heavy mist on their back sides? Seems like we never see precipitation like this outside of the winter months.[/quote]

I have often been curious about his as well. Tropical systems don't form those heavy rain drops that we get during those afternoon thunderstorms. I'm on the East side right now South of Jackson, MS and we're getting a lot of water over a long period but not what I would call "heavy rain" by any means. I noticed Katrina was the same way as far as rain drop character. I assume it has something to do with how wind whipped the rain is. Of course on the West side it would be dryer as well.

Storm obs.: In central Mississippi finally mixing in some pretty significant gusts I would guess around 45 mph sustained 20. Rain has been steadily falling since around noon and looks like tomorrow it will continue if not worsen up this way further inland. Nothing close to what SELA or south MS has experienced of course. The stall has certainly spared us from the typical power outages and downed trees further inland as compared to a faster moving storm.

A few minutes ago I made the common mistake of speaking too soon....looks like that hefty feeder band along the MS/AL line is going to provide more rain and wind. I could have sworn that's the same band I've been dealing with all day.

Hope the water stays out of your house. It has had the illusion to me of moving east for a while but I don't think it is real. I think the west side of the storm is just going away and it is making it look like it is moving east. There is just now much left on the left side unless you are real close to the center it doesn't look like.

I've been wondering about that, too... Two tornado warnings now just across the state line from us: Jackson County looks like it's getting pounded as does George and Greene. Mobile NWS office just posted a reminder on Facebook that all of us in SE Mississippi and SW Alabma need to be aware of more warnings overnight. That feeder band looks to be inching east into Alabama.

I have a friend in Ocean Springs that was saying there was a tornado down her road or something to that effect with the last tornado warning that went through. I thought the rain had stopped and was about to go to bed when I peeked outside and it was pouring and the road was a huge lake. That's when we had to move all the furniture. I'm pooped, but I doubt if I will sleep much.

^^ Yah, and it can stop that any time it wants. I wouldn't shed any tears.

Edited to add: The feeder band is moving into Mobile County. Definite lightning and thunder associated with this band, and it has produced two tornadic cells in SE Mississippi. Buckle the seatbelts, it could be a bumpy night.

So far I have a 35 MPH wind gust. Forecasted to get 1-1.5" of rain... 60 miles away 8"+. Hopefully we can get some more rain.

Here is HPC QPF 5 day precip:

I think one of our local stations said the tornado touched down in between Gautier and Ocean Springs-- is that St. Andrews area?

Hope your weather calms down soon- y'all have had it rough all day long!

Thunder and lightning picking up here in West Mobile. I'm ready for Isaac to run out of tricks!

I cannot imagine what Louisiana and Mississippi are going through with Isaac. It may not be a strong hurricane, but a very prolonged one, which is torturous.

still getting gust to 30-50mph gust and im off the coast a bit.... rain just shy of 11" i have 2 trees down but nothing like Katrina... flooding is sporatic but where its flooded its bad and in some cases requiring rescues.... most around my are out of power ...thankfully Im blessed to have a generator.been here all my life , I remember fredrick in '79, elena in 85' georges in 97' Katrina and gustav amd I would say Issac easily surpassed georges... Issac will not be forgot about anytime soon...once it leaves!!

In Mobile, we are still getting lots of rain/wind as well throughout the night. I woke up at 4am to a Tornado warning just to our east, then another one followed just to our north (Washington Co.), but Jackson and Green Counties (MS - just to our east) keep getting them as well. I know we are ready for the rain and wind (gusts) to stop, so I can't imagine those closer to the storm! I also know the river (Dog River) and west side of the Bay are super high (don't personally know about the east side.sorry!)... all of the houses past my parent's house are flooded on the first level, although most are up on stilts. No fun at all! We are getting a nice little shower with what sounds like pretty strong gusts (maybe between 30-40mph I would guess) and LOTS of rain at this minute.. Stay safe everyone!

Katrina's little brother Isaac has done a good job of messing up the coast. Can't believe the surge and rain for just a Cat-1. Beach is trashed, yard is trashed....a lot of work here....MGC
