No, Isaac didn't surprise me. The "engine" comment was in reference to the intensification indicated by the Euro and HWRF models Sunday and Monday, as well as the original Cat 2 indications being put forth by NHC in their forecast.

Heavy squall at Mobile. Torrential rain being blown diagonally by TS-force gusts in the 50-55 mph range.

The latest loop does show a little west wobble at the end but averaging nw. the eyewall band is just south of Baton Rouge should get there shortly, 1 or 2 hrs unless he stalls again

Thanks. And I am very confused as to where it is heading after that. Like, does it look like we are just going to get the west side, which would be drier and not last as long? Or does it look like we will get the north and east side, and end up with wind and rain for many hours?

I am also curious about that. If this is as bad as it will get then maybe we can keep power but if it will get worse then I don't know what might happen. The winds do seem to be gusting harder in the last 10 minutes or so. I just want to know what we can expect.

Being here in Beaumont, the winds have picked up quite a bit and many WB sites reporting gusts to 30 and over. It's pretty cloudy here. No sunshine at the moment. Kind of that feeling you get when you know a storm is coming (even though we know it's not coming to TX) Currently at work in downtown Beaumont 13 stories up looking towards the LA border...looks very dark and ominus that way! TS watch has stayed firm for our area, but Im guessing taht will be lifted within the next 12-24 hours... FWIW...NHC still showing 50% chance rain this eve, TS Conditions possible for tonight into Thurs with gusts to 40mph with 100% rain and another 80% Thurs night...Not sure if this will pan out, but the wind gusts they are forecasting, I can pretty much confirm..Lake Charles I see had a gust of 35mph.

Your winds should go from NE to E and then SE and SSE pretty soon with very heavy rain squalls and very high gusts just about at you now. Get ready. Then after a few hours of thaty you might get a little of the east side of the calm eye for an hour or two, then your winds should switch to SW and blow hard again for a few more hours. Good luck!

Btw, that means you stay mostly on the eastern side of the storm which is wetter and very windy and yes, I would think you'll definitely get gusts into the 60-70 mph range with this big band coming in.

Remember the rain mixes the wind to the ground, so when those bands move through I would expect some serious winds as well. Stay safe!

its coming slowly but surley. We are just now catching the most northern extent of the eyewall right now. Rainfall rates about an inch an hour sustained winds 30-35 with gusts in upper 50's and still building. Only going to get worse as Isaac now has jogged more west and the northern eyewall should scrape us then as it continues north get the eastern eye. Going to be a long day. Cant believe we still have power. Been hearing transformers blowing out.

My NWS point forecast has been updated for Lafayette still indicating gusts to 75mph possible. I'd be surprised to see over 60 but I guess it's possible if an intense squall sets up.

Guess it depends how closer west the eye moves towards to you. Could very well split the differnece between lafayette and btr.

Things really starting to pop in southern Mississippi (as if they weren't before!) Multiple tornado warnings in effect and more are quite likely in those feeder bands as they continue to swoop in out of the Gulf. It is *not* a good day to be out and about from SE Louisiana to Mobile County in Alabama.

If you're driving through coastal MS right now and you run into a heavy squall you must reckon with the possibility that a tornado is hiding in there. You won't be able to see it (too much rain) and you won't be able to outrun it. Best solution: stay home unless you must travel on essential business. Dangerous situation right now.

Lots of flooding in east Jackson county. My folks place is cut off by surge. Gustav didn't do that...Katrina destroyed everything on the bayou they live on. Storm surge sounds to be somewhere below Georges 1998 which was 12 feet(also flooded everything) there and many tropical storms and canes that brought 5-6 and didn't cut their road off. Isidore In 2002 brought a bit less, the road was passable by large trucks. Today it is only passable by boat. so I'm going with around 8 feet there.



For what its worth it's not likely to damage any homes. anything rebuilt post katrina back there is high up in the trees.
