I am in Texas and have never heard of such a thing. After Ike many bodies took awile to be ID. If this were true that would not have been the case.

FYI- there were a lot more deaths in Ike than what was reported...but it was advised to write your info on your arm...my parents lived on the west end during Ike...I know more than I care to know...

Slightly OT, but that reminds me of a conversation we had on this very board. One of our members worked for the Jackson County (MS) dispatch office, and when Katrina came in they were deluged by frantic calls for help......and people died because there was no. way. to. reach. them.

Evacuation orders exist for a reason, and it isn't to make people spend money and have them take joyrides across the state.

Slightly off-topic - just want to add this and then I'm done. For the past few days I've been in an absolute funk. Really desparing - the reason being, the tragically NASTY comments made by my fellow Houstonians regarding possible evacuees coming from Nola and the rest of the state. These comments have been made on FB boards, news boards, and even coming from some friends of mine. I am a FIRM believer in evacuations and when there's a disaster - we are ALL brothers and sisters - and we should all welcome them with open arms. We all come from different places, different economic levels, different cultures, etc. And to think, "well, we didn't get enough THANKS in return, and these PEOPLE didn't RESPECT us" is just too unrealistic.

That being said - if local governments (ie Harris County in Texas), turn away evacuees - it just makes everything so much more difficult.

Right now, I have never been so ashamed to be a Houstonia or a Texan. :-(

The "eyewall" feature seen on radar may be wobbling around the area of lowest pressure, giving the appearance of direction changes. Earlier it looked west to me, now more north. If possible, we probably need to focus on the cyclones general motion.

Local mets just talking about that...cant see much anything but a sloooow NORTH mvt. to me but thats an ungicated guess :D I know this much the winds and rains are the strongest Ive seen thus far!

I've thought about it. It's not too far from family and I love the state. I've looked for jobs there, but they don't pay enough. I'll stay in southeast Texas which is where I'm from. We are all GOMers. :)

Sorry Mods.. back on topic. :)

It does happen in Texas as well as other coastal locations. As for your last sentence... that makes no sense. If they refused to evacuate, what makes you think they'd write their info in Sharpie?

Looking at radar, there's some serious wobbling going on, but overall looks like a slow creep toward Baton Rouge.

All?

No, only those that were wishing/rooting for some kind of monster increase in windspeed. Most of us were warning of the impending flood threat that was to be far more dangerous over a wider area. We may still see flooding to a dangerous level up into Arkansas and Missouri over the next few days.

Not sure how many of you have heard of the "Wind Map," but today's is very interesting with the addition of Isaac.

What do we think about the track later in the week? Right now, they show it up into central MO/IL/IN and into OH.

Will it get that far north?

I found this from 2006 on CNN..."Across Houston, there have been a series of high-profile crimes involving Katrina evacuees. Houston police say evacuees have been victims or suspects in about 20 percent of the city's homicides, more than double their percentage in the population. This is leading to a feeling among some Houstonians that perhaps the evacuees are wearing out their welcome."

They did that just prior to Katrina in New Orleans. As I live about 30 miles away from NOLA, I remember it because of how morbid it sounded.

Hey guys. I live in Baton Rouge. Just curious... its been rather quiet, just some light winds of maybe 30mph and light rain. Are we going to be getting any 50-60mph sustained from this or what?
