Looks west to me. Stair stepping?

Looks like a huge Oscillation to me which would cover every direction at some point ...In ENGLISH = Stationary

Houma looks to be in good shape right now. As long as the storm doesn't move, that is! :P

What kind of terrain surrounds Houma?

Pretty much flat. Marshy to the south, west and east.

How are we looking in baton rouge guys?

My phone is tethered, power is out. Can someone explain why it looks like the storms all just die right before hitting us?

So, pretty much on top of Houma. Still inching along. Intensity hasn't changed much.

I noticed the HPC rainfall estimate graphic seems to have actually pulled back a bit since yesterday. It was showing as much as 17 inches for SE LA, now it's down to 13.23.

Here in Baton Rouge we are still in the NW side which is drier. We are slowly getting into the NE side of the storm. Expect rain and wind to begin picking up.

Isaac has decided he was hungry for the dry air buffet again to his NW. Slowly getting into his core.

Other people asked:
"What's this mean?"
"Anticyclone is setting up (or at least that is what I am inferring)"

Sorry I am trying to learn but what implications does that have on Isaac?

What it means is that Isaac is starting to weaken for sure now. The core is "sinking" means that the tops of the thunderstorms around the center are lowering (weakening storms) so the core is not as high as it was. The boundary layer inversion just means that air is warming just above the surface layer. this also aids in weakening.

Went to bed last night around 12:30 a.m. GMT (8:30 p.m Eastern), and then have been busy with work stuff this morning. Wondering how Aric fared? Last I read last night he was somewhere just a bit south of New Orleans?

A possible result of dry air to its West - Isaac may take on a right sided look as weather bulges that way
Lots moisture streamin up from Yucatan and Cuba now
Things reversed - as East Gulf got "wet" - W. Gulf got dry.

Nice... we live in hope. I really like that little clockwise rotation that seems to have set up near the LA/TX border... maybe help to force feed
it more dryness shortly. David and Goliath (Isaac).

So nothing to do with an anticyclone? I was thinking that the boundary layer inversion was an interaction with an upper anticyclone.

It's been sad to catch up a bit on the past 8 - 10 pages of this thread today and see how Isaac has stalled / slowed dramatically and stayed over water quite awhile longer than perhaps expected, increasing the hammering that NOLA and the coast are getting.

The NHC has done a great job with an exceedingly difficult storm, and my hats off to them, but in some ways it seems even their best may not have been "good enough" given the track uncertainty and the model divergence between the two "big dogs" - GFS and the Euro - for a lot of the storm's history. Certainly most of us expected a panhandle hit for about 2 days there, which meant much less time for SE LA and surrounding areas to prepare.

Praying for all in Plaquemines and other areas so badly affected already.
