this is looking bad the longer it drags out my sister and her family stayed home in st. charles parish they have no lights, wind kicking, raining the parashes shut off the water due to fear it would get contaminated because lake ponchetrain is full to the top and in feer of topping over. I live in SW Mississippi and our weather will not get her till isaac starts to move we are expected to have tropical storm forced winds over a 24+ hrs does not look good at all. I pray for all those on the cost of LA and MS and to be safe.

Woke up to some really strong winds this morning. A lot stronger than yesterday. Looks like we lost a couple of treetops. I still haven't checked everything out. Looks like this could last forever.

It is not moving WNW it is moving NW very slowly the weather channel showed where it came on shore and where it is now it is moving NW. I live in SW Mississippi and they are telling us that we will be getting tropical storm winds for 24+ hrs

12z NAM takes Isaac to TX/LA border on the coast at about +18hrs

NAM is awful at forecasting Tropical Cyclones. It's not programmed to handle these type of systems (barotropic) at all.

Very slowly, but you can definitely see him ingesting dry air to his NW. A very small bright spot!

Wobbling N now even a little NNE back up toward New Orleans. And if you look at the Weather Channel weather in New Orleans has gotten markedly worse. Gusts to 93 according to Cantore in New Orleans. Check radar. New Orleans coming into NE eyewall. Resulting weather in Miss therefore deteriorating also.

Could somebody explain what factors are making the storm move generally west/northwest rather than to the east/northeast at all? Sorry, I don't quite understand everything at play here or how the placement of everything works.

Yup. Most of the circ and all of the eye are over land now. The dry air is making its way into the western side quite a bit. Should weaken steadily from here on as friction causes the winds to pour into the center instead of around it. That fills in the eye and thus kills the tall thunderstorms rotating around the core.

It's still stair stepping and looks to be still on track, with recent movement NW pretty clear on radar and satellite.

Saved 40 frame loop. Looks solid NW at the end of the loop, so hopefully overland for good now.
