It's really gusting here in Houma. I'm wondering if the eye will pass over. Winds have held steady from roughly the north all night. It's going to look like a war zone here at sunrise.

Although I have been a hurricane forecaster since 1980 that only means I've been wrong lots of times.

After jog north, ISAAC now cruising very slowly due west along LA coastline...EYE over Terreobonne Bay.

New Orleans really getting hammered over extended period of time....surely the worst since Katrina

Good morning,

Isaac is basically parked over the coast of Southeast Louisiana, which is a nightmare scenario for New Orleans and surrounding region. The storm surge and the torrential rain amounts are going to be tremendous in the region. My prayers to everyone in Isaac's path. Isaac' s prolonged stay along the coast is really going to keep things absolutely brutal down there at least through the next 24 hours, possibly longer depending on Isaac's movement.

You have no idea how true that really is. I have no cable, but lucky to still have electricity. Had to post from my iPhone and iPad, no internet once cable went out. Relentless wind and rain now for 11 straight hours, here in the metro area if NOLA, since about 6pm CDT. I cannot believe the intensity of the winds and the gusts. House is making some unheard of noises. Reminds me of the same noises I experienced in Katrina. Crazy, and Isaac is not moving hardly at all. They are saying we could continue to be raked for the next 24hrs. like this.

Exactly right. That is why we havent caught a break. The marshland does nothing to help with the reduction in rain or winds. Isaac has to get onshore by about 30-40 miles before he can get away from the fuel source he needs.

Yeah, you and your family and everyone down there are in my prayers. It is just simply amazing how Isaac has been parked over the coast as the steering currents have collapsed for the time being. Because the hurricane is stationary over that warm marshy area down there, it has maintained it strength and will likely keep it until Isaac gets above I-10 corridor. Also, even it is does penetrate inland, flooding rains and even some wind damage is going to impact Baton Rouge and other areas across the state.

I have been following the coverage on DirecTV's Hurricane Isaac Information Channel. I know that the leevees have been overtopped down in Plaquemines Parish and reports are that people are trapped down there in flood waters. Emergency personnel obviously can not get to them due to the conditions and they have to wait until sometime after datbreak to try to get to the people trapped down there. Just a terrible situation. The worst is still to pass through the area because the eye is parked over the coast and the storm surge and the pounding wind and rain is just going to unfortunately batter New Orleans and the surrounding area for at least the next 24 hours or longer.

Ouch that is a big convective burst going up offshore! Not good for rainfall in SE LA.

Mind blowing. About to get a super intense line again. Also scary blowup on se side as per yesterday's vipr. That should ensure contimed hammering for the next several hours. We are on 12 straight of ts here. Street is flooded and nearby transformers blowing but we still have powere.

Center tightening up again which means its strengthening. Total rainfall now in the 4-6 inch range in NO. Radar shows a slow, very slow drift to the W-SW now. I don't see any northerly component to movement at all. The GFS predicted this movement (or lack of it) last nite lasting most of today. I hesitate to criticize the NHC because they do a great job, but I think they clearly missed this forecast the last 12 hours.

Big pool of 4500 CAPE to the SW - must be feeding the convective burst.

Steve you called it. You and I talked about this happening last night as everyone else was saying the cloud tops are warming, dry air eating the western side etc. That some in house short term models showed him pulsing up and down as he skirted the coast. Well he is definitely pulsing back up now.

Friends in Braithwaite (St Bernard Parish), their house is under water. Thankfully they evacuated. Pump operators down there are reported to be on their roof tops. Just heard that on radio.
