The problem is that there's no dry air around for it to entrain...

In for a rough night there Rail Dawg, hunker down and stay safe. ( I lived in Houma in 1984) Enjoyed it there.

I wish Wxman57 was here right now. Want to hear his opinion of Isaac possibly stalling off the coast or not.

I don't know about that...

I thought high tide was early tomorrow morning and the storm is basically pushing water into the bay and will be for 12 more hours...

You need to read/listen to your own local NWS and government emergency offices for that info. It varies widely depending on where you are. Don't trust anyone else!

Bingo! Mobile County EMA had to release a statement an hour ago advising people that the worst storm surge would be tomorrow morning, not right now, because of the morning tide. People made a lot of wrong assumptions today and some of them paid for it with their property. At least it wasn't their lives.

Is this "real" or the high res micro model thing?

That sir is real

Ugh. We are effed. I guess the landfall over a deep water ship channel's dredge spoil bank didn't slow it down.

according to that radar it's eating my house.

I'm amazed they haven't bumped the track more left. I like many others do not see what is in place to allow it to turn north with the high pressure ridge sitting in place. I am going to be super annoyed if I wake up tomorrow morning to see this thing knocking on the Texas doorstep with zero preparation time.

Isaac continues to become better organized as the cyclone drifts off the Louisiana coast....glad Isaac decided to wait to finally get his act together instead of doing so yesterday or the day before....if hat had happened we would be looking at a major disaster. Here on the Mississippi Coast, I've had gusty winds and rain that has caused my Directv to loose its signal. Had a brief power outage about an hour ago......MGC

This looks like the good ol' close to land effect. Land helps tighten up the center.

tides flood and ebb, some places the cycle is twice a day (semi-diurnal), some places it is once a day (diurnal). but right now the tide is ebbing (going out) so the flood levels have "peaked". tomorrow morning when the flood tide reaches it's high the flood levels will more then likely be higher then they were today.

just my uneducated opinion

Thanks for the explanation :-)

No. It takes 24 hours or more for that to happen. Isaac will be well inland by then.

Just an observation. The water is so shallow there, it shouldn't take 24 hours to cycle; but, there isn't any cold water there to upwell either.

come on NHC...really?

I'm unfamiliar with what timeframe the NHC decides overall direction of movement, but that speed sounds legitimate.

TWC sounds like they are confused by the forward movement also.
