What does this mean?

Nothing much since it's almost about to make landfall... But had there not been land in front of it, it would have exploded.

R.I. flag is Rapid Intensification flag. That means they expect rapid intensification of Ernesto at this point. It is a flag (yes-no switch) in the computer program that estimates the intensity from satellite images. It is turned on when R.I. is expected so the program can accept very fast intensification. The program will reject a really quick ramp-up in intensity if the flag is off.

I'm hoping that
#1 they are airborne
#2 they make it there for at least one center pass before landfall

Thats good news for whoever is in the path, because it looks to my untrained eye like it could end up having a pretty small eye. That core is very small and tightening quickly and these next few hours are going to be very interesting

Looking at Ernesto...what I am hoping for is that the pressure has plummeted, but that due to time constraints (part of the CDO is already about to start moving ashore) the winds do not have time to catch up. I hope land interrupts the RI process that is currently trying to get it's feet down and in motion. Terrible situation for those in the impacted areas, definitely, but if that interruption does occur...how close they would have come to having a Cat 3 or 4 knocking on their door.

They should have bumped up the flight an hour or two earlier...or seen if a NOAA bird could of flown in earlier. I'm sure NOAA would have a field day, with all the data they could have gained for research into RI.

Unless they are enroute and not sending publicly it would be tough to get there in time I don't think.

Why would they go to the runway for nothing. I think its the latter Dave, with the HDOB's not being updated.

Center of Ernesto within the 250 km range on the Belize radar now...has to be too close to land for recon at this point.

Could be possible they went to the runway and AOC canceled at the last second...heck, I wouldn't be surprised if some flights make it into the air, only to be canceled enroute...both of those happen quite a bit with military related things. Stand by to stand by, this maybe a maybe!
