That's exactly what I was just saying - I'm in downtown Houston and while the rain was heavier and more tropical yesterday - we've had much louder thunder and more lightning with this latest batch going through. But, it's lightened up outside again, so, for the moment, it's eased up.

We saw this strange bright light in the sky all afternoon.................the sun. Wow, it feels like we haven't seen the sun in forever. Of course it warmed things up quickly.

We had a few heavy rounds of rain before noon but it cleared up this afternoon. Looks like this Thursday, Friday and Saturday our chances go up again so I'm praying for that narrow window of this yard drying up enough for me to mow before the chances go back up for rain.

Had a brief funnel cloud with one of the passing thunderstorms in W. Houston about an hour ago. A friend called and said he needed me to go out in my back yard and check something out. Sure enough, he wasn't imagining things. Clear as day there was a funnel cloud about a mile NW of us. It was gone by the time I got into the vb chase vehicle. It kept trying though while I was out. NWS issued a special statement about possible funnel clouds after I reported it. Don't know if they had planned to or not before then, but since I am a trained spotter, I guess they decided to go ahead. Still lots of rumbling and unfortunately heavy rain over the areas of NW Houston that flooded recently.

Very severe storms ran through here about a half hour ago. We heard alot of crashing noise in the back yard so I'm sure there is damage but I'm not going out there until morning. More heavy rain expected tomorrow.

I was driving in that mess earlier tonight. Took me 2.5 hours to get back from Baton Rouge. From the lsu vet clinic to my house it takes me about an hour. We were stopped on the basin bridge due to accidents. The lightning was neat to watch though. And earlier, around 6ish i was at the lsu vet clinic and was able to see several huge purple bolts of cg lightning.

Looks like the typical summer pattern is back in Houston. At my house on the West side we've had two pretty good showers/thundershowers this afternoon. I haven't emptied the gauge yet, but it looks like about a tenth of an inch or more. Some really LOUD thunder with these showers, but not a lot of it. Currently 77f-aaahhhh!!

Yes CM, we heard it and immediately moved to the center of the house. It took two canopies off of my deck and broke a large limb from a tree. We did end up with leaking in our living room roof. All in all, I'd say we faired well compared to most. The oddest things is my two labs went completely nuts right before it hit. I think I'll listen to them first next time. LOL

I think what's bothering me the worst is that with all this rain our grounds are still saturated and mowing will only rut the lawn. We have a fairly large tractor for this acre but this tall grass is driving me insane. My son promised me that if the weather stays clear he will come mow it Friday. His tractor is lighter than ours.

The mosquitoes are also multiplying by the second with all this water and now much warmer.

Yikes!!! So glad you guys are ok and only had a little damage. Sounds like you guys need a water extraction service instead of rain for a while.

So glad you yourself weren't harmed. Patio covers are replaceable. I get what you're saying about your yard being so saturated. Here too! I have to take my dog out on a leash to potty (he had surgery) and the mosquitos are just waiting to attack us. And they're some small mosquitos too! I can't really even see them but i feel them biting me and see them swarming all around my dog.

Today's severe storms were horrific. I got caught driving in it and I must say that I've never seen such intense blue cloud to ground lightening hitting mere seconds apart in every direction. I'd been at a shower and had just gotten home and changed into my jeans when we lost electricity, for 4 hours. It was significantly cooler this evening. Almost felt like fall.

It was moving east so I hope you guys in the Lafayette area fared okay.

Wow, we just had an absolute downpour here in my part of Baton Rouge. I saw a trash can floating down the street and our streets never flood. I wonder how much it rained. Is there a site which lists rainfall amounts? Weather.com used to but they changed their layout and now the precipitation measurement is gone.
