This is way off topic but I would like to ask y'all this question. With the anniversary of one of the darkest days we've seen on our soil coming up, not to use the exact words of an Alan Jackson song, "Where were you on Sept. 11th 2001 and how has it affected your way of life?"

For me.....Michelle and I were sitting at the kitchen table having our coffee and reading the paper, we always have TWC or the news on for background noise. News Channel 3 in Phoenix broke in with special report, they had said a small plane had crashed into Tower #1, they retracted their statement a few minutes later and said it was a large commercial airliner that had hit the tower, then all holy hades broke out. I will NEVER forget that feeling I had in the pit of my stomach as the days events unfolded, I still get that feeling even though it's been almost a year. We didn't work that day, instead we went and fueled up all our vehicles, went to the grocery store and stocked up on non perishable items, withdrew enough cash to get us by for 2 weeks. We called friends and neighbors that were not aware of what was going on.

We have become more aware of our surroundings and the things we see that are not the norm for our area. Our faith along with our fellowship has increased a hundred fold.

Thanks for letting me do this, I feel we here at the message board have become a close family, so to speak, since that day, a LOT of good friendships have been developed, some of us have even met face to face because of this weather board.

I was driving between offices when my wife called me. At the time, the report was just that an airliner had crashed into the WTC and that it possibly was terrorism. By the time I got to the office, the second plane had hit and the Pentagon was hit. The staff and I watched in horror as the towers collapsed...

I was finishing up getting ready for work...

and then turned on the TV to "Good Morning America"
shortly after the first plane had just hit. Soon after the second plane arrived and hit. Just totally numb inside...sadness and anger, too. At work, the radio played with the reports and updates of what was going on that day. I just never take life for granted anymore.

I was sitting at my desk...

...doing some work when my wife called me. She said that she was listening to the news in her car on her way to her job and she heard that a plane crashed into one of the WTC towers. At the time, she thought it was a horrible accident.

She called me back (from her car) 15 minutes later and told me that a second plane crashed into the other WTC tower and that it is believed to be terrorism.

At this point, I became very distracted and started surfing the internet for anything and everything I could find about this. As the morning went on, I became more fearful as I heard about the plane crashing into the Pentagon and the plane going down in western PA (both from my wife, who is allowed to listen to the news at work).

I was not able to see any of the horrible images until about 5:30 PM when I got home from work.

I very much remember the sickening feeling I had all day long - feeling bad for those who lost their lives, feeling angry at those who caused these horrible things to happen, and feeling very frightened that something else was going to happen!

I was at school in my computer applications class, until I heard something on the intercom that said "Terrorist Attack on America!". Most of our classes were post poned until 9/12/2001.

All we did was just watching the late breaking story on TV.

I was two blocks away

Working on the primary election that day. I herd the crash. Went out and walked to Battery Park. After a half hour two ferries to Staten Island came. As we boarded the boat the first tower fell. The debris covered all of lower Manhattan and our boat, as we started to move. About 500 feet out it was clear. I could't see anything in the rear because of all the people on the boat.
To make a long story short I was one of the lucky ones who didn't have to breath in any of the debris. When I got home my wife was crying on the phone to her mother. She was so glad to see me. Her and my kids were the only things I was thinking about. If not for that I might of ran to the towers to see what was going on. I'm glad I didn't.

We were moving into our new home (the one we're getting ready to move out of ).

My husband and kids were at work/school. One of the workers brought in a radio around 9:20. Listening to the reports, many feelings came over me at once, but I remember the shock and dread every time ANOTHER plane crashed. I prayed for mercy that it would stop. There just seemed to be no end.

Cable wasn't installed for 2 weeks, so the only visual I had was the newspaper the next day. I guess that was a blessing.

I had just flown from NH to FL a couple days before. We flew over Long Is. and could see the city very clearly. I look back and think of how normal life was there that day. Very, very sad.

When the World Stopped turning...

On that September day, I was on line, talking with Angelheart, as I did on any ordinary day. My mother phoned on the callwave to tell me what had happened. My first thought was that it had to have been a horrible accident, little did I know how the events of the day would impact our lives forever. I knew my family was safe, so my first thoughts turned to dear friends. A couple of emails and a telephone call later, very relieved, I just sat and cried the rest of the day. Since then I have looked at life differently, each day is a gift. As the song says.... Faith ,Hope and Love are some good things He gave us.... the greatest is Love. My heart goes out to those whose lives were forever changed.....May God Bless you, and Keep you in His tender care. T

Where were you (when the world stopped turning)

by Alan Jackson...

Where were you when the world stopped turnin'
that September day?
Out in the yard with your wife and children;
Or working on some stage in L.A.?
Did you stand there in shock at the sight of that black smoke
Rising against that blue sky?
Did you shout out in anger in fear for your neighbor
Or did you just sit down and cry?

Did you weep for the children
that lost their dear loved ones?
Did you pray for the ones who don't know?
Did you rejoice for the people who walked from the rubble
and sob for the ones left below?
Did you burst out in pride for the red white and blue
And the heroes who died just doin' what they do?
Did you look up to heaven for some kind of answer?
And look at yourself for what really matters?

(Chorus)
I'm just a singer of simple songs;
I'm not a real political man
I watch CNN, but I'm not sure I can tell you the difference
in Iraq and Iran
But I know Jesus and I talk to God
And I remember this from when I was young
Faith, Hope and Love are some good things He gave us
And the greatest is Love.

Where were you when the world stopped turning
That September day?
Teaching a class full of innocent children;
Driving down some cold interstate?
Did you feel guilty 'cause you're a survivor
in a crowded room did you feel alone?
Did you call up your mother and tell her you love her?
Did you dust off that bible at home?

Did you open your eyes hope it never happened;
And close your eyes and not go to sleep?
Did you notice the sunset the first time in ages;
Or speak to some stranger on the street?
Did you lay down at night and think of tomorrow;
Go out and buy you a gun?
Did you turn off that violent old movie you're watchin'
And turn on "I Love Lucy" reruns?

Did you go to a church and hold hands with some strangers?
Stand in line and give your own blood?
Did you just stay home and cling tight to your family
Thank God you had somebody to love?

(Chorus)
I'm just a singer of simple songs;
I'm not a real political man
I watch CNN, but I'm not sure I can tell you the difference
in Iraq and Iran
But I know Jesus and I talk to God
And I remember this from when I was young
Faith, Hope and Love are some good things He gave us
And the greatest is Love.

I saw Alan Jackson Live at Country USA in Oshkosh, WI over the summer and it was an eerie silence when he played Where were you (when the world stopped turning). Some people were praying, others were crying and some were singing. He had the words on the big screen that way people could sing a long with him. A candle was burning behind the words on the big screen. That was the last song he played before the oncore. My friends and I were gathered together like a family. I did some singing (inbetween the tears). Everyone had American flags and they were waving them throughout the song. It was very patriotic.

I'll try to do the Readers Digest Version...

I was at UWGB just waking up for a day of ONE class. My roommate had an 9:30am class and I didn't have my class til 12:30pm so I slept in (sort of). She left for class around 9:15am and I was awake, so I got up and turned on my computer (I had time to kill, so I was going to check my emails, that sort of thing). I had other things to do before I finally got to use my computer. So (unknowingly) I went to check my Hotmail account and on the main page of MSN had "AMERICA'S BEEN ATTACKED". I thought...It must be a hoax...someone got into my computer. When I checked my email, I had an email from the Neenah-Menasha (WI) Office of the American Red Cross (N-M ARC) asking for my service to my country. I printed that email out that way I could show my roommate and friends that I MAY be headed to NYC and/or DC. I also have an AOL account and when I typed in that account, the main page had "ATTACK ON AMERICA." Now I was really suspusious because I didn't really know at the time what was going on. So I turned on the TV and EVERY CHANNEL had the news on talking about NYC and DC. I saw both towers fall LIVE. Within a half hour I got a call from my boss at the Neenah-Menasha YMCA (NMY) saying that he (and Dani) had received a phone call from the N-M ARC asking if I, Yes I, could go out to NYC and/or DC to serve and help out with the clean up efforts. Tim (and Dani*) both told the N-M ARC that I was valuable to the NMY and with college, I couldn't afford to go out to serve my country for weeks on end. When he told me that, I fell to the ground and starting crying because I was only a few plane flights and signatures from going to NYC to aid in the clean up efforts.

Jackie had come back from class and told me to turn on the TV. I told her that I was on...and that I've had it on for the last couple of hours. I also told her that about my phone call with my boss at the NMY and the email from the N-M ARC. I was scared and she could see it in my eyes. I didn't know what to do...to go to class or to drive home and talk with the N-M ARC and NMY about the efforts to aid our country in the time of need. I decided to go to classes because I had only one class that day.

I left for class a little earlier than normal because I knew that it would be a zoo getting through the University Union (there is a TV right when you walk into the building). Most of the student body was glued to all of the TV's around campus watching the events unfold. I weaseled my way through the traffic and headed to class. My professor said "I'm sure you all know what went on this morning and I suspect that most of you would like to be home with your families. I know that I do. So lets get this class over with as soon as possible" We went on with class and then at the end of class, he told us to call our parents and to tell them that we LOVED them and that we were proud Americans. And I did.

When I called my dad, I told him that I had received a phone call from Tim about the voyage out to NYC and/or DC. He said there should be nothing to worry about that because Tim had taken care of it. I also told him that I had received an email from the N-M ARC about the efforts. He again told me that everything would be ok...just let Tim (and/or Dani) take care of it.

Fortunately, I didn't go out to NYC and/or DC. When I got to work on Saturday, Tim, Dani and I had a meeting about the whole phone, email messages from the N-M ARC. They told me that I was not headed out to NYC to aid in the clean up efforts. I told them that I was thankful to work under such excellent and caring bosses. They knew that was a valuable employee at the NMY and it would be hard replacing me for those weeks that I would have been gone.

*Tim is my Aquatic boss at the NMY and Dani is the Executive Program Director at the NMY. Dani is one of the 3 head bosses at the NMY.

I was at home

It was a beautiful day here in Cincinnati. Clear blue skies, 70s, no humidity. Sent my girls off to school when my next door neighbor frantically called me. This was just after 9 a.m. after the second tower had been hit. She and another friend had been on the phone with the morning news on. They were watching live reports of the first tower when all of sudden they witnessed the second plane attack. That's when she said she had to go into action and call as many people as possible. I was her first call. I was shocked and of course turned on the TV. I sat down with a thud and could not believe my eyes. I then sprang into action too after taking a few minutes to get a hold of myself. I called my husband's office - they had no idea what was going on. Thankfully they have a TV and watched the terrible events unfold all day. Called my mom and we both cried together on the phone. We watched the first tower fall live. That to me is still so shocking. That the towers would actually collapse. I had visited NYC in 93 and went to the inside observation deck of the WTC. These buildings were massive. Local reports were coming in with all sorts of closings (malls, schools, church meetings, etc.). I will always remember that terrible day and have decided it will be the saddest day for our country. I am old enough to remember JFK's assassination and funeral and I didn't think anything could top the grief people felt during that time (I was only 8 but you do not forget scenes with adults all around crying and watching TV).

Later in the day I could not stop looking up into the sky. Just the thought of no planes up there was the strangest and sad feeling.

In the immediate days following, I prayed relentlessly for survivors to be found. That they were not is almost too hard to bear sometimes.

I was at school...

The day was actually quite nice and coolish, after a rather disappointing cold front the night before (this is a weather board). I had noticed earlier in the morning that people were moving TVs around, etc. but I thought it was something related to classes. It wasn't until I got to 2nd period (more than an hour after the first plane hit) that I learned of the attacks. It happened that I walked in the class and the teacher had the stereo on, which I thought she was using to prepare the German tapes to which we listened on occasion. I enquired, in a light-hearted manner
what we were doing that day, because I always thought the tapes were kind of silly in the retro way (they must have been made in the 80s). She responded that the WTC and the Pentagon had been attacked, and worse, we didn't know who had done it (or at least she didn't at the moment). Let me tell you, I have been scared in my life many a time, but this took the cake as the most unsettling moment in my life thus far. It was a feeling that the whole country, or the world for that matter, might end in some horrible war to begin on that day. Ultimate insecurity. I was shaken to the core like never before. I really hate to say it, but I breathed a sigh of relief when we found out that it was only terrorists. It's sad that it would be a good thing that it was ONLY a few terrorists, and that only a few thousand had died. But such was the situation on that day. It certainly forced me to be more thoughtful on the way the world works, as it should have in all of us.

I'd just gotten up and popped on NBC just after the first plane hit..then watched in horrified disbelief as the second plane hit..and on and on though the whole thing; with tears streaming everywhere..I had a job interview that day..but wasn't sure what was happening with that (ended up going through with it anyway..)..The WTC in downtown St. Paul was evacuated, as well a few buildings in downtown Minneapolis..the nightmare just seemed to grow and snowball..didn't find out for a couple weeks that my friends in Manhattan were okay..It really taught me not to take anything for granted..Life is so short, people..Live it well..

I'd had another "bad night", so I slept in until about 12:30; came downstairs, opened up my PC and went to Yahoo!, where I saw a story with photos about an attack on NY. Thinkng that this HAD to be a hoax, I called my brother in WI, who only said, tonelessly, "Turn on your TV."
I did...and spent most of the next 3 months glued to CNN, MSNBC and FoxNews.
Strangely, I had attended a FEMA seminar about such threats in 1985, so I was not as shocked as many, if not most people; for me, it struck me more like, "I knew this was coming, but not quite THIS way".

I was on my way to my "Voice for the Actor" class at UNO here in Omaha, NE. I got to class and several students were talking about a plane hitting the pentagon. I thought they were talking about a movie, until I got home and saw the news. To this day, I still can't believe it happened.

As far as my life goes, nothing has changed since that day. I suppose when our troops FINALLY catch and assissinate Bin Laden I'll feel much better. I mean, PA-LEASE...nearly a year and with all the technology we have, and they STILL can't find him!?

First of all - awesome thread snowman!

Wow.. where was I, well I was at home in Nashville just about to leave for work when suddenly on GMA they interupted with a "special report" I hate those, it always makes my stomache turn. "A plane has just hit the trade center!".. I'll never forget those words - unbelievable.

The first thing I thought of was my sister, we had just moved her into Manhattan on September 7th where she was planning to live for two years - going to acting school. I immediatly got on the phone to reach her but nothing, just dead lines. So about 4 hours later (the longest for hours of my life) we got hold of her and, she was fine although she hadn't heard from her room-mate who was in the subway of the World Trade Center the time the first plane hit. She turned out to be ok - but man that was the most frightened we have ever been.

Another thing, my wife's friend was flying to New York from Nashville that early morning, now this was her first time flying and she actually saw the first plane hit the tower from the airplane!!! Can you believe that?!?! Needless to say, she hasn't flown since. Who can blame her.

I was in NY about a month ago and I just stood there at the trade center sight looking down from that platform on this HUGE crator in the ground and up at these skyscrapers that had crators in themselves!!!!!!!!!! You can only imagine what it must have been like ~ unbelievable,

Take care everyone ~ Cy

I was at school. We didn't know until the end of the day, when we were called back to homeroom. But as my friend and I were walking downstairs to homeroom, I got it out of her. She knew because another girl told her. I think the biggest fault in our school was that there was a leak of info. If no one knew, it would be so much better, or if we all knew and could face it together it would have been good. But only a few knew from their parents, from their cellphones, which are not allowed in our school, BTW!! I used to be so angry that I didn't know first thing, but I am glad that they waited.

Then, when the plane crashed in Queens, they told us about that because they assumed it wasn't terrorism, and I remember I was so scared, I faked being sick and went home.

Where I Was

I was in school when a teacher came into my study hall class and told us to turn on the TV and that a plane had crashed. I saw the horror unfold on NBC, ABC, CNN, and other news stations. I saw the towers collapse and I freaked out in my Psychology class. I saw the plane slam into the pentagon. I watched even more TV at home and I saw the huge headline on the front page of the Syracuse Post-Standard that said "Special Report: AMERICA ATTACKED!" I cried and though to myself "Why do these people who attacked us think that they have the right to hurt Amrica when they can't?" I also got mad when the brats in Palestein cheered when they heard that the U.S. attacked.

9/11/01

I work in a refinery and had been working the graveyard shift the night before. That morning my wife had gone to work and the kids had gone to school so I went to bed.

When I woke up (around noon central time), I found my cell phone on the floor. It was on vibrate and fell off the bar in the kitchen due to the number of phone calls it received while I was asleep. I looked in the call log and noticed that six of the calls were from my parent’s house and one call was from my sister. My first instinct was, “Oh my God, something has happened to mom or dad!” Something was obviously VERY wrong. I called my parent’s house and my father answered the phone. His first words to me were, “How is this going to affect you?” I asked him what he was referring to. He told me what had happened and I logged into the Internet and stared at what I was seeing in disbelief. At this moment I was both relieved that nothing was wrong family-wise and awestruck with the day’s events. I turned on the television and watched the scenes being played repeatedly; it was like a bad dream. I still didn’t want to believe what I was seeing.

My mother-in-law called and asked me if I was going to check the kids out of school and bring them home. I told her that I saw no need to take them out of school (1st & 3rd grade); they were as safe at school as they would be at home.

I returned to work that night. Security had been increased and it was a very somber place. The normally talkative crowd was virtually silent. Everyone was in shock. Somebody brought a bunch of small American flags to the control room and gave them to whoever grabbed them first.

Those same flags STILL adorn the control room.

GOD BLESS AMERICA!

I was...

... in bed at the time, seeing as how it was only 5:40 AM here in California. I found out at 7:35 AM that morning when my mom called to tell me that New York and Washington had been attacked. I had college Monday through Thursday that time of year, and not knowing any different, I went to school, only to find that class was cancelled. The next day, I was supposed to have an exam in History. My teacher postponed it. It is the most significant recent event of my life, and it is definitely up there on my all time list of worst moments ever. One ironic note: My brother's birthday is 9/11.

I remember it like it was yesterday

I was sitting in my recliner in the living room watching the weather channel and then switched it back to GMA when they broke in with the special report. I sat stunned as I saw smoke pouring out of the north tower, they were reporting that a small plane had evidently crashed into the building. At that same time my grandfather arrived to take my sister and I to school, I ran outside and told him to come see what was happening. I also quickly grabbed the phone and called my grandma telling her to turn on the TV. As I was on the phone with her I saw the second plane approaching. In all of my naivity I thought it was a firefighting plane coming to fight the fire in the north tower (I was in total shock at the time and clearly confused) Then I watched in horror as the second plane hit the south tower.
Well, it was time to go to school by that time and when I got their my friends didn't know about the second crash. I filled them in and we went to 1st block.
We watched th tv as the buildings collapsed and watched the reports on the crash in PA and at the Pentagon.
It is a day that I will never forget.

Great thread Dennis!

It's interesting reading about the few so far on this topic that were fairly close to the whole situation. I'm glad for them (Uncle Wetherbee and Cyclone) that they weren't hurt and neither were their loved ones.

Like Miss Mary said, I remember driving into work that day thinking about how beautiful a day it was! I was just getting into Atlantic City when the first plane hit at 8:46, but I didn't hear about it until I got to my office and went back to where my employees were. We heard the announcement together about the second plane crash and the other one that hit the Pentagon. At that time there was a rumor that there were several others that were unaccounted for, including the one that went down in PA. Everyone had their radios on and when I went back to my office I called Marty right away to tell him I loved him because I was frightened. He had already left me a message on my phone telling me the same thing. We have the Air National Guard located about 20 miles away and you could hear them take off and scramble. The Atlantic City International Airport (it's not as big as it sounds), was receiving the huge jetliners that had to land at the nearest airport. The've never had that kind of traffic before. We had alot of patrons at our casino that were now stranded and alot of our customers are from NY. I just remember having a sick feeling in my stomach and I couldn't wait to get home to see the pictures on CNN of the whole thing.

I Was In School

... That truly was a terrible day in history. Our school's tvs went on minutes after the first plane hit. Everyone watched the first tower burn and the second plane hit, which was very hard to watch. I am glad that I was able to witness it because of its magnitude, but many students were horrified. The usually noisy halls of our school were dead silent as many students were deeply confused about the whole situation. Many were saddened but extremely angry the following day.

Thank You

I appreciate all the kind comments. I sit here at this modern marvel many nights thinking about that day...and for some reason, it's REALLY buggin' me, to the point that I'm reliving every single moment of that morning. I can see by the replies, as Stephanie said, we're all pretty much in the same boat here. I really feel for you younger folks, it's hard for us adults to understand why it happened.

I got an IM from my friend, and he told me to turn to cnn. When i turned CNN on i saw the pentagon on fire and the south tower already gone! I watched as the north tower fell...and it was just so sad. Its undescribable.

Well, I didn't wake up until approx 9:30 am because I stayed up the night before and watched Monday Night Football. The first thing I did was get on my computer and check out the TWC boards for the latest tropical info (how ironic) and there were some threads by different people talking about "America's been attacked" or "America at War"

I thought it was a just a sick prank, but it wasn't. I ran into the living room and mom was sitting there with disbelief, she told me what happened, and just after 10 am was when the towers started to collapse. Then they kept showing over and over the planes flying right into the towers. Personally, if I would have seen that happened live in-person, it would not have shocked or freightened me as much, but watching the coverage over and over was what started getting to me.

My heartrate was accelerated during that whole week, I lost all urge to eat, drink or sleep. It basically was just a state of being dazed and shocked, like in a time warp. I didn't even want to go anywhere. I just basically sat there staring into outer space.

My mom, was getting worried as they announced rumors that planes were heading toward The Capital or White House. I really think that my mom thought that the world was gonna end that day, and I just kept telling mom "all they wanna do is make a statement, and by god they did" My inital feeling was nothing else was gonna happen, and so far to this day, that has been the case.

The other things that were scary was the fact that no commercial airplanes were not allowed in airspace for a few days. For the next week or so, I was so freaked out, if I heard some sound that was unsusal, the first place I would look is straight up in the air. I was looking for planes and contrails and any other signs. What made the situation worse for me was the fact that the fighter planes were flying in my general area back toward eastern NC because they had spent the previous days before up in the western parts of NC doing practice missions in the mountains.

The next thing that amazed me out was the media coverage of the attacks. Being that I'm 22, I've never seen our country under attack before, and seeing that not only just the news outlets were dedicating their time to this, but the other cable outlets, like your sports networks, and music channels and other stations, were picking up feeds from different news services and was halting all programming, and even some networks were "fading to black" for 24 hours or more. Radio stations were halting all music and picking up news radio services. It was truly unbelieveable, these unpresidented times that were before us.

I was truly afraid that the celebrities and famous people of this county was going to act their normal "wealthy-nothing can affect me" ways, but everyone, from the movie and music stars, to professional athletes, and TV personalities, were truly affected by what was happening.

But with all the sadness that occured during those days, I still remember President Bush there at Ground Zero, telling those workers (who did not take one minute off for anything) through that Megaphone that "the whole world is hearing from us, and one day the people who did this was gonna hear from us". Also, when Major League Baseball decided to come back the monday after 9-11, and the Late Jack Buck was doing his speech on our country and how baseball was, is and always be a part of our country and the healing agent for our people, those two things really boosted my feelings and I felt like getting back on my feet, and showing those Terrorists that this country will stand strong even through the toughest of times.

Same feelings here too Dan....

...I was at work when I friend called me on the Nextel to tell me,"Turn on the radio or a tv NOW" I asked why and she told me the trade tower had been hit.My heart sank,my stomach felt like someone had a death grip on it.A few minutes later she told me the second tower had been hit.I knew in my gut it was no accident.I called my husband who turned on CNN and we all talked back and forth until I couldn't stand it and went home.We sat in disbelief for hours watching the horror unfolding.By the next morning I couldn't watch it anymore,w/o feeling like my heart was being ripped out.Not thinking anything, just crying and feeling so lost.My daughter who was 2 yrs old a few days later when we were outside heard an airplane, looked up and asked "Momma is that plane going to hit our house?" I felt like someone had knocked the wind out of me.We tried to shield her from most of it,but she still picked up alot.I also found myself looking skyward whenever I heard a plane, taking mental notes of what the plane looked like and what direction it was going.I am naturally a friendly person, but not nessarily a trusting one.I look at people a different way now.I am much more aware of peoples actions, words and feel as if I must keep my eyes open, even now, almost a year later. This has changed me.Not all for the best I must say.I have no tolerance for terriosts or the countries who harbor them or finance them.

Is anyone else worried about all the "rememberance" things that are being planned and being televised when and where they'll be? Maybe it's just me.I now worry about any large grouping of people, especially national things.Like I said this has changed me.

God Bless our Sweet U.S. of A. ~K

Rose, I sometimes wonder if large gatherings like sporting events or any other events will eventually being targets of attacks. Just another of getting attention.

I also have some reservations about the networks and their potential overkill of the one year anniversary of 9-11.

I know ABC plan on coverage from 7am to 11 pm on 9-11, NBC will cover from 7 am to 4pm, and CBS from 7 to 11pm. You also have the cable networks like CNN, FOX News Channel, MSNBC who will do wall to wall coverage. Then you have stations like MTV, ESPN, etc... that will be running specials from time to time through the day.

You know for all that's gonna reunite bad memories, but hopefully it will also re-fuel the support and the reason why we're fighting this War on Terror

Forgot to mention...

How I was impacted by these events, so if you all will indulge me....

After watching all news until after New year's day, I began to look for options that would allow me to "serve" once again, given the President's call for volunteers. The Red Cross, local FEMA office, even Civil Air Patrol didn't "pan out", for one reason or another; but just this week, I was presented with a new opportunity to perform a useful service right here at home, as part of a new "MIssouri State Guard" which will not be federalized in cases of necessity, but will remain in-state under the sole control of the Governor, or Adjutant General, to fill in for those who may have been sent to foreign lands, or any other purpose the Governor's Office has in mind; in this organization, one of 29 others like it across the country, I may be assuming the position of "Public Affairs Officer", which is less physically demanding, yet will provide a vital mode of communication and public awareness, and is perfectly compatible with Homeland Security and both Federal and Missouri State law.

Who says that you can't use an old "war-horse" again?

I had just gotten home from work and had been asleep for an hour or so...

..when my wife called and told me to turn on the tv and that a plane had crashed into the WTC. I turned it on and it was like watching a movie special effect or something. It was unreal. I found out later that a cousin of mine who had recently moved to DC saw the one that hit the Pentagon fly by his office window and dive into the Pentagon.

In the days following some of the stauch Clinton supporters here were blaming it on Bush of course. They're the same ones who blame guns for Columbine.

That's like blaming spoons and forks for Rosie O'Donnell being fat.

After watching television most of the hours that I was awake on 9/11, I don't remember watching any television for several days afterward. I had about as much of the carnage as I could stand, all saturated into one day.

I'll most likely not watch any of the one year anniversary shows. It still seems like yesterday. If all the major networks are doing the rememberance thing all day I guess it will be a good day for a trip to the local Blockbuster Video.

A Message From Mary...

Miss Mary was the one to alert me to the events of that morning. Here in Phoenix, it is 3 hrs earlier, so I was reading my morning e-mail when Mary stepped into my computer monitor with an IM stating that I should turn on the TV and witness the events of the day.

I had a business meeting all day that day which was subdued and somber...and we had a little portable TV to watch the events unfold. Would have been much better to cancel the meeting and allow us all to try to understand what was happening.

This struggle against terrorism will see more dark days in the months and years ahead...but the vivid memory of that second plane turning into the tower is etched in my soul..and will serve as a reminder that we must continue an aggressive policy on finding and ridding ourselves of people and regimes who do those kinds of things.

Where I was on September 11, 2001

Well it started out as a typical day for me. Before the attacks happened, I had the TV turned on to CNN (though it was just in the background -- I wasn't paying any attention to it). I was just reading the various tropical message boards and looking for information on developing TS Gabrielle when I heard my family members gasp at the TV. So I turned and saw it...Tower #1 fall down into ashes. A few minutes later I saw the second tower fall down and watched in shock. The rest of the day was a sad and shocking one indeed, a day I'm sure everyone will never forget.

God bless America!

I had been at my son's school and was on my way home. I heard reports on the radio and since my mother-in-law's house was on the way home, I stopped there to watch her tv. When I sat down and saw what was on the tv, I got chills. I immediately went home and tried to get in touch with my husband to tell him what happened. It was a very emotional day for all of my family.

Just booted my pc....

I sat down in my chair to check my email. I turned on the TV and saw a building burning. I kept typing. Then someone mentioned a plane hitting the WTC. I immediately thought a small plane hit, but it had my attention, then the second plane hit. I sat there for a few minutes in disbelief and made sure I had it on the right channel. I called everyone to get them to turn on their TV's but they were already tuned in. I will never ever forget the way I felt when I saw that second plane. I remember thinking "I hope those planes were empty". And I thought about the people above on the floors where the planes went in. I do not know about anyone else, but it was like I was in slow motion the rest of the day. I hope and pray we will never have to go through anything like that again.

9-11 We will NEVER FORGET!!!!

On 9-11-02 I slept late because my classes at Salem State college in Salem MA. I can't remember what time I woke up but I believe it was right about the time the first plane hit the tower. I turned on the tv and found all the channels tuned into the World Trade Center and seeing the first tower burning. I watched in horror as the second plane hit and the towers collapsed. I was in total shock. I couldn't believe that our nation could have been attacked. I always thought that the world was more peaceful and that something like this would never have happened. But it did. It was real, not some hollywood movie.
I tried to tune it out of my mind, but Being from the Boston area, I couldn't. It was extremely scary living near Boston as the planes had left logan Airport (where I now work btw as a ramp agent for American Eagle and I am proud of it) and those planes had flown out of Boston and into the world trade center. I wasn't sure if more attacks would come in the Boston area. I thought our city was under attack as well and more planes would fall out of the skies, or more bombings or who knows what else would come into Boston area. I tried to gather up enough strength to drive 45 minutes on the highway to Salem State in Salem.....which normally is a fairly easy commute, but that day i'll never forget. I was glued to the radio listening to the developing events. I finally made it to Salem with my heart pounding from what I was hearing. America would soon be at war I thought. I couldn't believe it. We had been attacked for real and more attacks could come. Being so close to the place everything took place, it was very scary. Many of the hijackers were based in the Boston area. It was scary knowing that I could have stood in line right behind one of them somewhere in the city or passed them in a car or on the street.

I finally arrived at campus only to find the entire campus had been evacuated and classes called off. There was a line of traffic exiting the campus, and everyone seemed glued to their radios and many people were too shocked to talk about it, and many of them looked scared as if we didn't know what was happening or what would happen next.

Since classes were called off for the day, and I was still shaken up and in a daze, I wasn't ready to drive home. I went to a park at the tip of the point at Marblehead MA near Devereaux Beach , there is a lighthouse there and a nice park with parking area. I had my lunch there and gazed out at the boats in marblehead harbor and looked out at the glorious blue sky.

The sky was clearer than I had ever seen it before
It was a perfect day, except for one thing.
I couldn't believe with such a beautiful Fall day, something like that had actually happened.

I finally drove home and saw the news and thats when it hit me this was real.

That was my day on sept. 11th.

Also, I live right on the flight path into logan so it was very odd seeing no planes in the sky for 4 days. I did notice without the planes the sky did look clearer, i.e. less pollution.

But it was weird as sometimes I have planes flying over in 2 minutes....a time. I can see 4-5 planes lined up at once, some nights.

I also saw military planes flying in groups out to sea in Salem once classes resumed. It was a tough first week back after Sept 11th.

A woke up on that morning, flicked on the TV as I was laying in bed. Incidently I had it set to the weather channel. Then one of the meteorogists pointed out somethin had happened in NY. My gut response was to turn on CNN. 30 seconds later I see the buildings on fire, and live I see the 2nd plane plow into the building. I woke up immediatly, cursing and calling my family members, everybody gathered at my grandpa and grandma's house. I was a bad day for the New World olice state the USA, But a great day for the globalist scum of the New World Order...People unfortunatly we are dealing with somethin more than bin laden, al Queda, and Iraq. There is a hidden agenda.. keep that in the back of your mind when we start losing or civil rights, guns, and freedons. Just like everyone else, I will never forget what happened on 9-11. For all of us of this generation, this will be our Pearl Harbor.

I remember waking up on the couch, (I had been divorced from my first wife for awhile and had not yet bought a lot of furniture), and turning on the TV. I usually watch CNN or Fox news and they were showing one of the towers on fire. I then turned it to the Today show and they were just showing the story. I got up and called my girlfriend ( now my wife ) and was talking to her about what was happening when the second plane hit. As I was traveling to work, the first tower fell and the second one followed as I was pulling into the parking lot.
We pretty much stayed in front of the TV in the breakroom all day. One thing that really sticks out in my mind was seeing all of the planes circling the Airport to land, it reminded me of watching aircraft carrier landings except with jumbo jets.
For the next few days nothing much happened at work because we were dependent on daily shipments and everything was grounded.
I find it sad that it appears that the fervor we had to strike back is rapidly fading. A lot of liberals are starting to say that our country is to blame for what happened. I think that is a bunch of hooey.

AirWorthy Med Cert

I had a busy day planned.I had just been cleared on Friday by my Flt Dr. to resume flying the Baron Twin..'Int'l.
I had a final biz appt with my Telco crew in Mexico(78nm to my south) to go online with the Micro Tower relay and fiberoptic ring for the Mexican/AZ
Wx radar system which consisted of 11 sites. It had been a tedious contract and was looking forward to celebrating.
However,'Songbird'had been acting up and I decided to drive to Nogales,MX instead.I had little sleep under my belt as final contracts were still being generated.
My wife,a school teacher had prepared breakfast and sent the one of the 3 boys off to school early. She woke me out of a sound sleep, saying 'Donald, wake up!Your brother! The WTC was on fire!'Knowing my older Brother,David had an office on the 44th Floor and the fact that he and my Mother had a late brunch at 'Windows on the World' just the afternoon before, plus the fact he was due to check into his office and catch a flight from Newark to SF afterward had my head spinning.I jumped to the widescreen, where my wife(CJ) had on I beleve the Today Show. The camera shot was from Midtown Manhattan(I lived there in the late 70's,so knew the location),looking south toward the Towers.I saw only one on fire, smoke trailing with the prevailing breeze. The towercam was not colorized,so the image was very 'black and white'.
I called Ryan Air Field, where the Baron was parked.I was told of a commercial 'Heavy' that had flown into one tower, and that we were 'grounded'.It looked like a tactical nuke blast had hit lower Manhattan from my vantage point.I was informed the US/MX border had been locked down as well per protocol. As a pilot and former Naval Flt Officer,I went into 'EMRG MODE'.
Prepare for more attacks and monitor EMR Frequencies and HAM OPs.
I instructed my wife to fuel her car,go to the bank for withdrawl of some cash, buy food and return within the hour, cell phone 'on'.We called the school and to no avail recived no bus interruptions for the younger boys.I insisted they stay home, although they had gone to the bus stop already. My wife hurried the order and returned as I showered quickly.Just then,I saw on FOX the second plane delibrately fly into the second tower, and reports of more hijackings came in.
Loaded with 'Jet-A',she blasted in,with fury and intense heat.I knew the towers wer doomed from them on.I was angry, but controlled.I knew Bush ans AF-1 were vulnerable from his return trip from
FLA.Then, the Penatagon.I knew we were at war. Then the reports of the heavy going down in Penna,...it was enroute from Newark to SF!I thought..dear God..not my brother David!Reports came in...the Capitol,White House..even AF-1.Dear Lord..this was bad and getting worse. When would it end?It was well organized,on a massive scale.
A squad of F-16s flew by low off the deck.Heavies were inbound en masse into Tucson Intl'.So many,I could not count.I thought of the WTC Mar'93,the USS COLE on Yemen.I knew it was Al Quada...and Targets were on 'the List'.Was it progressive?Detroit,Chicago,Omaha,K.C.,ATL,Dallas,HOU,Denver,Colorado Springs,PHX..Tucson(home of Raytheon's Missile complex),L.A.,my home of S.F...Seattle's Boeing complex?.I knew they had to secure the airspace,ASAP!And they did.Where were Bush,Cheney? Our Cheifs of Staff? This was serious.
I was not angry,I was preparing.
I watched the Towers collapse.I knew thousands had perished.I was ready to defend. To be proactive. It is my country, and she had been wounded badly. As the day wore on...I prayed.
I wanted revenge.I wanted to strike back. Most of all..I was sad that my children were subject to these horrors.I prayed we would survive this horrible day.We did.
God Bless you all,and the Men and Women defending us overseas. They are made of 'The Right Stuff'.

...For asking.Actually, that is,as Paul Harvey would lament:'The Rest of the Story'.
My older brother and I used to be close. We attended Tulane Univ together, after my parents divorced after 26yrs...he knew it took a toll on me,as the youngest. After years of good times, living in Houston and Miami with my brother,we resettled back home in the San Francisco Bay Area.He moved away in the late '80s to NY Metro and we lost touch...I got married,he had a failed relationship with his fiance. We did not stay in touch,as he was self absorbed in Biz as was I,on opposite coasts.I in S.F.,he in NYC,we had a sibling rivalry of success..a stupid game really in retrospect. He never married,I had 3 children.Tensions mounted.Dad passed away in '96,my older sister Susan on a PhD fast track in D.C. met an older man,a surgeon from Upstate,NY
...old Wine Country family. She settled into the Vineyard lifesyle along with my Mother.I stayed on the left coast.
Fast forward,11SEPT01
I knew of my brother's office at the WTC as he had moved from Parsipanny,NJ to White Plains,NY.
My mother had called me on 10SEPT from the WTC where they were discussing a possible trip out West to see me and the family.I missed the call,as I was out.Voice messaging was all I had.She mentioned his plans to fly from EWR to SFO on 11SEPT and then to TUS to visit on the 13th.
They were to attend Mass/Novina at St Patrick's Cathedral after their brunch at Windows on the World.I knew the place,as I had eaten there in 1976 when she was spanking new.
That AM,after the attacks,I could not get through to the NY area on land line or Cell...the main Comm tower had been lost in the Tower's collapse, and secondaries were overloaded.
I sent an E-Mail to my sister,Susan's Vineyard in the Finger Lakes of NY,hoping for info..nothing.
12SEPT I recieved a mobile PCS E-Mail from her.
All was fine.He had been late coming into Manhattan from White Plains,as he decided to drive
due to his plane reservation later that AM.Traffic was heavy and he had been delayed just long enough to save his life...my Mother had stayed in White Plains that eve...so both were fine.
It was the longest 18hrs I had recalled waiting for good news, which came via E-Mail.
We still are not close...he wishes to live his own life...but that's okay.At least I know my Big Bro is still kicking Corp butt in NYC.

I was just getting up

I had just woke out at 7:41 am 5 minutes before the first tower was hit, I got in the shower, and my wife comes in at 7:47 saying that there had been a plane crash apparently into one of the World Trade Center towers, I got out and ran in there in my shorts to in front of the tv and turned in on to NBC and Today there was a picture on the screen of the burning tower, it was 7:49 am, and I starting getting on the computer and emailing everyone, then I got on the phone and called my parents, my dad answered, I said TURN ON THE TV, there has been a plane crash into the World Trade Center it was 7:58 am, I then watched MSNBC, while I'm talking to my dad, I see a plane hit the second tower, and I said "OMG" did you see that? It looks like there has been another plane or something that has hit the other tower, he saw it and said we are at war, we are under attack. So I hung up the phone at 8:06 and got on the computer sent out another email, saying AMERICA UNDER ATTACK" and then the reports of the Pentagon attack and the plane into the WTC I still have tapes from that day 3 tapes and then 2 more the rest of the week, my wife went and picked up our 5 and 3-year-old son, and our 4-year-old daughter from school and daycare, That was the most horrific day ever I had lived through I took off work for 3 days, and sat there in shock as the towers fell, I will never forget that day, and I will be taking off on Wednesday to watch and commemorate that day. It made me sick to see Bin Laden and all them clapping and praising the hijackers, that just made me sick. I will always and hope that all the civilzed world will remember 9-11 forever.

I got up at 7 central and went to physics, took the bus back to my dorm, got breakfast, ate and then listened to music on my comp. My mom imed asking if i was watching what was happening. So i turned on the tv at about 9:30 to Manhattan Island in smoke. Everything had already happened by the time i found out. Nobody will ever forget the day, you just don't forget something like that. Its just too bad the media will exploit this day for ratings by showing all the families' pain all over again. Theres no point in seeing kids and widows crying again, thats not closure. Its also a shame that one year passes and we still dont' have Bin Laden, and since Bush can't find him we'll waste our time and good soldiers taking out an idiot that had nothing to do with 9/11 adn is just being done for approval ratings. I just hope we can actually fix the Terror War before things get worse and actually acomplish the goal of getting Bin Laden like Bush promised a year ago and now says is irrelavant. I hope the god of the 9/11 families' choice blesses them this Wednesday next and everyone in America. And may we all live to see peace in our time.

We were working in the gardens at school when an aide ran out to tell us.....we immediately took the students in to tell them. Their reaction was quite varied; some clung to each other while listening to what was being said on the radio.....and a few who did not understand the gravity of this went into the computer room to play games. So many unanswerable questions.....we told them they'd remember this day all of their lives. Even in Michigan, the ripples were felt strongly. My sister was at Detroit Metro almost ready to board for her flight back to Pheonix. I took the afternoon off, (to go back up to the airport and pick up my sister) and my husband who was quite ill insisted on driving me to the airport to pick her up. All of the roads were blocked into the airport.....we noticed an airport taxi, and glued ourselves to its bumper.....finally finding a way in. When we found her sitting at the curb, she said no one had come by for 45 minutes! I wondered about the several other passengers abandoned there........she had witnessed a questionable person being picked up at the curb who greeted the driver with a thumbs-up and huge smile; she wrote down the license # and later turned it in to the FBI. Two kids in our class lost relatives in the towers. A fellow involved in this was arrested in Mesa, Az. the next day that lived in the same apartment building as my daughter!! My brother in Williamsburg, Va. realized in the middle of the night that a questionable neighbor was hurriedly moving out. This tragic event touched each and every one of us in an unforgetable way.....some horrifically so.

We've done some changes at school. American flags have been installed in every classroom; the Pledge of Allegiance is recited each Monday morning by those who wish to participate......sadly a very few do not. When questions pertaining to 9-11 come up, we take the time to discuss, realizing these young people are full of questions, worries, and fears......just like each of us.............p

Where was I on that DAY

I had been at work for 2 hours and was sitting at my computer when I heard some people at the cubicle next to me talking as though something was wrong. They had a tiny TV turned on. I went back to see what was going on and saw the smoke pouring from the 1st tower and heard them telling that a plane had hit it. As I watched, before my eyes the second plane hit the next tower. I stared in disbelief and my mouth probably flew open. It was so surreal. I work in a very large government complex that also houses two Army Generals so I knew we could be next on the hit list. It was very difficult to do any work after that. Some of us went down to the cafeteria where there are larger TV's and watched a while. I came back and tried to work but just couldn't. It seemed like I could hear the screams of people in my head. What a horriffic day. Eventually we were told just to go home, and our army post closed for the rest of the day. I will live with the sight in my mind every day the rest of my life. I do not want to see it replayed over and over every September 11th by the crazed news media. I want to pray for those families and not have to turn on the TV and see it again and again like it is some kind of circus event.

Dennis...thanks for starting this topic. Everyone (and their cousin) came together to share their stories of how 9.11.01 changed their lives.

Where were you?

I was in the elevator heading to the 4th floor of my building. I had just started working at Verizon Wireless and was traing for the rest of September. Somebody in the elevator said, "did you hear what happened?" When he told me that a plane had just hit the 1st tower about 5 minutes ago, I didn't know what to think. I figured it had been a small aircraft kind of like what had hit the Empire State building in the old days. After the second plane hit, I knew it wasn't a coincidence. But i never in a million years would have ever thought that those buildings would come down.

Most cell phones were not working. Our office building lines went down. I tried to reach my father because he works at West Point and I figured that if an attack was on its way, they'd be next. Finally i left work at around 11am, i think. When I got home I wasn't sure what to do. I didn't know if I should drive to my friends house or if I should stay home and get the weapons ready. It was hectic. Once I knew all my family was alright, I met up with my sister and we went down to the Hudson River to look at the city. Smoke was everywhere.

I love NYC. I loved seeing those towers standing tall in the sky line. The view from the top of the towers was amazing. All the people below looked like little dots. I miss those towers. They should build them bigger and better!

I new a couple of the people that perished that day. and for what??? Thats what i would like to ask these cowardly muslim extremists right before i stick the knife in their throats! I'd like to end all of there existance. I am with Bush and feel it is necessary to take on any Country tied to terrorism. These people should know that they can't mess with the U.S.A.!!!!! Now it is time for us to crush them all like the worthless garbage that they are. Saddam, YOUR DAYS ARE NUMBERED!!!!!

My heart goes out to all the families impacted on that horrible day. GOD BLESS AMERICA!

where i was....

on that warm september morning...where to begin, i was in my advanced math class the first time i heard about the attacks, of course my class and even my teacher really didnt think much of it, we thought it was like one of those small prop job planes, not a 747....i rem. going to my next class which was pyschology(how fitting huh?) and it was during a break, my bfriend(though not at the time but still was one of my best friends) came in and we discussed the matter, i rem him saying it was just like Pearl Harbor, which was freaky, espcically since it had almost been 60 years since that occured...after it all sunk it that this was real, my teacher let some of the students in my class go to the library and get reports off CNN.com....at lunch that was the topic on everyones mouth of course, some of us were scarred because we heard they may attack the nuclear power plants, and we live less than 2 hours east of many in nearby tennessee...in our lecture hall they set up the tv on the pulldown screen and it seemed like the whole school was in that room which held like only 200-300 in a squeeze...we watched in silence as CNN replayed the second plane crashing into the tower...my last class of the day was advanced pe, and they didnt make us dress out, instead we could just chiill or do whatever, most of the girls rhough were disscussing the events with many of the coaches....its hard to believe its been one year since all of this occurred, here at UNCA tomorrow they are doing numerous events for the anniversery, and at night they are lighting 3715 candles in place of everyone that died that day....hope everyone has a safe week and call someone you care about tomorrow, just to let them know you are thinking about them...take care weatherbuddies

Doesn't seem

to matter what part of the country we're from, from what I'm reading is that it has affected us ALL in the same way. May God have mercy on the poor souls that sat in their offices that morning, not having a clue as to what was fixing to happen to them, may He continue to shower those of us who were not there with the many blessings we have received through out this past year and may He continue to wrap his loving arms around us and keep us from evil.

Where was I?

I was sitting in my 7th grade American History class. Then my principal came to the door and asked if he could talk to my teacher. When he came back in he had a horrible look on his face. At that point I knew something was wrong. He said class, "There has been two planes that have crashed into the twin towers." Everyone was so freaked out and crying and stuff. I wanted to go home sooo bad I had fear all over myself. But, I prayed for God's mercy over those people and the family's of those people who lost their lives during the attack. Right when I did that God took the fear off of me. I was soo thankful for God. He is awesome, and you know he helped people through that situation. So I have to say TRUST IN GOD!

Here's an interesting statistic...

The sunday after 9/11 churches set records for attendance all over the country. Then over the next few weeks it filtered back down for the most part.

Why is it that most people only run to God in times of distress and in the case of 9/11, when they are afraid? That instinct that God's word is true was stirred up in people and they though that 9/11 was the beginning of the end. When they saw that it wasn't quite yet, they turned their backs on Him again and went on about their lives without Him. This is so sad and it grieves Him.

God is the same in times of trouble and prosperity. He deserves and requires worship, praise and recoginition for His blessings on our lives. This country was built, for the most part, on biblical principles (with some exceptions like the way that the indigenous people here were treated by some, but that is a long rabbit trail), and that is reason for it's prosperity. Our constitution was drawn up by men who believed in the existence of God...the biblical God.

We are getting farther and farther away from Him and His protection we have enjoyed for the last 200+ years and we need to come back to Him quickly...very quickly.

No one can really find the United States in biblical end-times prophecy.
This country is walking on shaky ground....

Here's how my story goes:

After I got off the school bus to get some breakfast, I was heading do my 1st period class at Nimitz High School in Irving. 2 minutes before the bell rang, I heard someone on the intercom who said, "I need everyone to join me in a moment of silence..." After the bell rang, I didn't know what's going on until the TVs were turned on. One tower was burning, the other tower just exploded ! I don't know if the plane crashed into the 2nd tower, or if it just exploded on it's own because there was too much interference on the TV. After the 2 towers collapsed, I was very concerned.

I appologize for the length. . .

It was the morning of September 11, 2001. My mother had been visiting me for the past week, helping me pack for my upcoming move to California. This was the morning my mother was going to fly home. She was booked on a non-stop United Airlines fight, from Newark to San Francisco.

She is an earlier riser, a morning person, and likes to take the earliest flight of the day. I like to sleep in. Knowing that I would not be thrilled to take her to the airport at 6 a.m., my mother booked the next earliest non-stop flight. Thank God for that.

We were getting ready to go to the airport when I heard my mother’s friend’s voice on the answering machine. “Well, it looks like you’re not going anywhere today. They just blew up the World Trade Center. Give me a call.” I ran to the TV, and turned it on. I saw the buildings on fire. I went and knocked on the bathroom door. “Mom, someone blew up the World Trade Center, you had better come out here.”

My mother came out of the bathroom with her hair still wet. We watched in horror as the first tower fell. I still don’t know if what we watched was live, or a re-showing of earlier tape. I had assumed that bombs had gone off in the towers, and that the New York airports had been closed because of the attack. It was not for several minutes that we learned that airplanes had been hijacked and flown into the towers.

My local channels were all New York City based channels, so they were reporting many “unconfirmed” facts that had not yet made the national newscasts. An on-the-street interview yielded the information that one of the planes that had hit the towers was a United Airlines plane. A separate unconfirmed report stated that a United Airlines flight from Newark airport had been hijacked. My mother got on the phone to call my father, my sister, and her sisters, to let them know that she was not on any of the hijacked planes.

Eventually, they reported that it was indeed United Airlines flight 93, en route from Newark to San Francisco, that had crashed in Pennsylvania. My sister said that even though she had spoken with my mother and knew she was all right, her stomach turned over and a chill went down her spine when she heard the news.

I was so incredibly fortunate that my mother was not on Flight 93 that morning. I am also fortunate that I did not lose any friends or family that day. Those close to me were not as lucky. My uncle lost his niece; my cousin flies for United and had friends in the flight crews that were lost. I have friends who work in Manhattan and saw the disaster firsthand; other friends knew people who died in the towers or on the planes.

I don’t think the magnitude of the tragedy has sunk in. I don’t know that it ever will. If each night you lit a candle for one of the victims, it would take more than eight years before you would have acknowledged them all.

Interesting!

I just scanned through them and noticed I didn't post there. I am not surprised. I wouldn't have much more to add. I did post on this board about it a number of days ago.

I believe this is the entire thread. I copied it at the end of the day on Sept. 11 of last year, fearing that it might be deleted soon afterward. It was such a compelling thread that I wanted to save it. I had to break it up into 2 posts here because it was too long to fit into just one.

I hope that it is not a problem to re-post a thread from that "other board". Just figured that most of those who posted in that thread call Storm2k their home now, and might want to remember what they wrote a year ago.

Dennis, Stephanie and Tom - thank you for your comments. :)

John - thanks for posting this! I want to read the posts more thoroughly when I have the time, later this evening. And you're right, most of the posters that contributed to the thread, call Storm2K their wx home now. Sure puts me back on that fateful day, September 11th. The timing of you posting this was good too. I'm sure there will many articles/memorials to the victims of September 11th in the coming week. Just reading the transcripts last week from some of the 911 calls were so sad. They do need to be read, acknowledged, remembered. Sad to go thru it again, but honestly, these memories of September 11th are just under the surface for me. I haven't let go of any of it. Thanks John.

Wow...thanks for sharing, John. When that thread was written I didn't even know of the existence of that other board or any other messageboards.. I didn't join that other until late November 2002.

I can't believe how many posters on my thread are now over here......wish there were a few more, say like Capman, MoGolf..........someone who has access to *that board* needs to make an open invatation to them!

No problemo John, like I said, wished I had the insight like you did to copy a few threads like that........and "NO" "Thank YOU!"

Dennis - GMTA!!! I too thought we should invite more former wx friends over here. Sure is nice to see many familiar names from that thread......and more threads like this one would have been nice to save. Did this one get deleted? Wait, no one has to answer that. Don't want to compare the two MB's - they're so far apart in concept/atmosphere, it isn't even funny anymore. If anyone has access to long-lost wx pals, feel free to contact them.
