Blasting your music
How many of us like to blast our music? :? I am right now. I have my speakers up to about 100-105 decibels and I am probably pissing my whole neighborhood off.

In the past, I was known to turn it up to blast. My stereo has been blown up for about 10 years now. Now all I have is my 'puter with the 0.5 Watt sound system. Everyone in my family hates my music
A persons taste in music is inversely proportional to the volume of the music. At least that means that my little computer speakers play GREAT music.
Now that I'm older, I'm turning into an old fart. The worst is the "boom cars." When I pull up to a red light next to some teenager blasting rap, it makes me

Here in Sikeston, they enacted a "noise pollution" law...if your vehicle stereo emits more than 50db, your car will be confiscated, towed and you will be subject to a fine.
Nothing I detest more than hearing "BUM-BUM-BUMBUMBUM-BUM-BUM...BUMBUMBUM-BUM-BUMP-A-DUMP" traveling by in some jerk's SUV at 55 mph in a 25 speed limit zone.
Which is one very good reason I'm glad I'm moving soon!

Once in a great while, I'll push my stereo a *little* not too loud though, I'll crank it up to the oldies *Lynard Skynard, Boston, Guess Who, Eric Clapton* just to name a few. When I say *crankin*......maybe 32 decibals "LOL!"
As far as *boom cars with crap music* "Grrrrrrrr!" I HATES those things........makes you wonder, if a cop or an ambulance were coming behind them, can they hear the siren???

Here, for everyone's reference, a decibel scale:
Threshold of Hearing 10 dB
Rustling Leaves 20 dB
Whisper 20 dB
Normal Conversation 60 dB
Busy Street Traffic 70 dB
Vacuum Cleaner 80 dB
Large Orchestra 98 dB
Walkman at Maximum Level 100 dB
Front Rows of Rock Concert 110 dB
Threshold of Pain 130 dB
Military Jet Takeoff 140 dB
Instant Perforation of Eardrum 160 dB
Rap Music in a Boom Car 170 dB
OK I made that last one up.

Dennis, you forgot the most important sound they cannot hear when booming and that is trains. We have had three deaths at railroad crossings this year alone from them not hearing the horn of a train.
My Camaro does something very interesting. When I hit the brakes the radio volume gradually turns itself down. When I accelerate it goes back up. It is neat. Makes it convenient when approaching an intersection or railroad tracks.

What kind of car do you have Lindaloo? I will admit, I used to drive one of those cars with the obnoxiously loud radio. Since Dustin was born though, I no longer listen at that loud of a level. I definitely get into my music still though. Couldn't get through the day without it. Rock music is by far #1 in my book, but I still get into some rap, which Chad cannot stand. LOL, oh well.

I think so too mrs chad. I thought something was wrong with the car. I took it to the Chevrolet place to have it checked. They called me about an hour later to come down there. They learned something new too when they found out it was supposed to do that. lol. There were 4 other Camaro's down there for the same thing. lol.

I suppose it isn't a problem losing your hearing and literally blasting the shattering the material in the speakers.

I agree about the eardrum damage from those "sub-woofers" in the cars. I had an 89 Camaro that had 2 12's. I had it cranked up one night and I could actually feel my eardrums vibrating. The next morning when I woke up, I could hear ringing noises and everything seemed to sound like a busted speaker, even when I talked. I went to the doctor who informed me that my eardrum was damaged and the ringing might or might not go away. He gave me some medication and thankfully in about 3 weeks the ringing stopped. My ears are very sensitive now to loud noises, which drives me crazy sometimes. So when people tell you that it can damage your hearing, believe me... it definitely can.
