The weather outside is kind of spooky looking! Chilly, foggy and wind driven mist.

Certainly didn't hit the 70s today.

After last winter's calamity snow storm, my hometown's street crews are preparing and testing their sanding trucks in case we should ever get another storm like that. Here's the video from the Irving Community Television Network.

Well the american models have given way to the others with a more robust southern stream storm instead of the progressive pattern. Good freeze is coming and it's not impossible (but I think surface temps will be too warm) for someone in the mid mississippi valley to MAYBE see a stray flake.

I certainly agree. They have not been reliable even this close to an event. These are the kind of systems that can have a mind of it's own and certainly capable of surprises. The only reason I'm a tad skeptic about the cold/snow possibilities is because of the time of year, but I would not be shocked if mother nature had something up her sleeve. Just take a look at the past few days here in north Texas, those 70s never materialized instead 50s and fog/cloudy for days.

Edit: Models are coming to a consensus something could be looming for the southern plains in the coming new week.

The GFS is updating now and it has gone back to the low bringing some wintery weather to the south. Strange looking system. I thought the GFS was a joke the first time i saw it 5 days ago

Hey! It's finally that time again! GFS has 3-8 inches of snow for I-20ish north into Oklahoma in about a week! It's our first 'legitimate' shot according to the weather alignments coming up. This bodes well into the predicted cold snap/sw low by the op models of late. Pattern is starting to look ripe for the plains to start December.

P.S. I would not doubt this storm track as it's been the theme this fall (Texas to Ohio Valley). Question is how much cold air will be involved.

Ah...the first "storm" of the season. The first storm of the season is the true test of your strength, as it has brought past storm2kers to their knees. Crushed hearts will surely come but we all do it for that one time, that one time when the right ingredients come together. When mother nature dumps her snowy glory down on us.

Will it come December 5th? Who knows, but we'll be watching.

It's interesting to see that most of the 0zGFS Ensembles forecast for below normal temperatures for the 5th. In fact a few of them go way below normal in regards to temperature forecast but its a wait and see situation.

Our Local Met said the Southern Plains is in for a significant pattern change starting early December. So the GFS may not be too far off base here.

It's not every winter that you see something like this even appear on the models in early December.

GFS 06Z continues to show interesting things coming in 7-10 days.

It is very rare to see this so early in the winter season. Which is why I am very skeptical, skeptical about the snow/ice. It's pretty certain some cold will come.

Dont forget, in 2009, Houston had measurable snow on December 4th. It was our earliest snow in history, but its still possible!

It also snowed on December 10th in 2008 which was the previous record.....

The Grey Goose-swilling meteorologists in the Portastorm Weather Center say the GFS operational runs have shown more consistency in the last 3-4 days than the op Euro. But they've not looked at the ensemble runs though. Maybe our friend in the Valley, Rgv20, will chime in as he's good at looking at the ensembles.

I do hope the GFS is right.

12z GFS says pfft what snow?! I say we all get our can-o-snow to give it a boost. (Does have a small patch from west Texas into Oklahoma though!)
