This season is reminding me of some combo of 2000 and 2001: lots of low-level flow issues.

Interesting though that the season hasn't really had a true landfalling hurricane, however it's made up for it when it comes to inland flooding...

Truly a disasterous year for USA natural disasters, per TWC's segment that gave the long list of the various types of natural disasters to befall us this year - and it's not over yet...

I firmly believe that CONUSers will no longer be crying "season cancel" once we get to the period near 9/18-24. Enjoy the quiet while we have it. There are ominous signs in the model consensus. See my post in the general models thread for my reasoning.

There isn't even anything in the Eastern Pacific! At least those storms are mildly interesting when there's nothing in the Atlantic.

The West Pacific only has a weak storm right now.

This is more like a Northern Hemisphere season cancel right now, not that I'm calling for the destruction cyclones bring. Of course, things can change quickly.

14/2/2 may go down as one of the most hard to explain seasons ever. most forecasters at the beginning of the season stressed "quality over quantity" this season. its been just the opposite.

Just when we think they may have it almost nailed, "vertical instability" gets thrown in to the mix- of the lack thereof. Who knew? I blame Texas as I jokingly wrote about today on the hurricanetrack.com homepage. Texas Air Layer = fewer hurricanes. Hope Dr. K will incorporate this in to the 2012 forecast, the first which is due out in December....

Your statement is incorrect sir. TAL= NO HURRICANES The TAL or at least the Eastward extension thereof is what threw the dry air into Irene and ramped her down from what was expected. If I didn't know better I would think that there really is a Texas Air Layer after what we have seen this year.

The fall cold front came through the New Orleans area on Sept. 5th....! Really? I have no memory of the fall cold front comin through this early! "Usually" the season is by all intensive purposes "Over" Once the fall cold front passes through.....Fwiw...it's depressing lookin at water vapor loops lately, and I'm personally trying to squeeze in as much beach and pool time as possible in anticipation of an early winter!

This season really reminds me of 2007. Dean and Felix did all the heavy lifting that year, and everything else pretty much remained weak.

It also reminds me of 09 where it seemed every storm was sheared. At this point the total was 6/2/2 then, with 2 CV hurricanes and 3 storms that were sheared.

I don't think there were any storms that formed from fronts at that point. This year there were 6, so this season really isn't that much better than 09 in terms of the deep tropics, only a two storm difference.

It's been a very hot, humid summer here in eastern NC. Forecast to be another 90 degree day. Tomorrow's forecast, highs in the upper 60's! That's a cold front and I believe someone turned on the autumn switch!

Good, I can finish my Irene cleanup and actually enjoy being outdoors..........

I am so excited about the cooler weather although it won't last here in eastern NC we will more hot weather thu mid oct as we dont close the pool at the condos until the middle of Oct and people still use it up till then. I have not heard 60's for highs but low 70's with showers but sure hope for the 60's
