Cicadas - look out in 2004!

#1 Postby Miss Mary » Fri Aug 29, 2003 10:14 pm

Cicadas will hit my area next year. Some are wreaking havoc early too. Moles are active more than ever too. It's all connected, apparently. Read all about it here:

I had a newborn baby in 87, when they hit the Cincy area then. I remember not being able to take Nina out for walks in her stroller. And hearing their roar above the A/C unit! And funny, husband and I thought it will be so long off in the future when they come back, when she's 17. Joke's on us.....in some ways 87 doesn't seem that long ago. Then I look at Nina and know it's a long time ago!

Just be ready in your region if cicadas will be out next year.

Good gracious. That's something to look forward to. I don't remember them being here 17 years ago though. Maybe they'll pass us by. Do you have moles too?

Yes, we have moles! Our Golden Retriever has half of our back yard to roam in (instant electronic dog fence) so they're not near her. She scares them off apparently! But the very back where she can't get to, is a mess! I cut grass again, and it's rolly-polly back there! Not big deal really. One neighbor has traps set up I heard. And get this - one day my dog was playing around with something. Tossing it in the air. Thought she had gotten a hold of a beanie baby or something. It was a mole! We coaxed her inside. Then another dog came over, did the same thing. They didn't kill though. Hubby said I should have. I could have smacked it with a shovel. Didn't have the guts to. I did see an area of grass my dog had dug up - right near our house. I don't know if she heard this mole, or what, but Hope just went to town on that area. I've always said having a dog is a good thing - mole wise. That's the only one that ever got up near our house.

We had them here in Pinetop this year for the first time in memory........when you'd fire up the lawm mower, weedeater..they would just louder and louder, trying to out do the noise I guess!

MOLES (gophers).......we USE to have a huge problem with them, Chris at Christophers Gardens told us to plant *Red Hot Pokers* as a natural defense, they DO work......areas of the yard without them are riddled with HOLES, looks like a mine field "LOL!"

Another way to rid yourself of them.......dry ice! Put dry ice in the hole, pour hot water down it, the dry ice displaces oxygen....works like a charm!
