There reporting that people are just boarding up in Va Beach and are driving around like it is just a thunderstorm coming through. These people do not have a clue.

Reporting a man in eastern NC went out to check on his house and a tree branch fell killing him.

based on the water rise in the pamlico and albemarle sounds, how much potential is there for overwash from the west on the outer banks when the wind cranks out of the west later on?

Do not take this storm lightly. Just had a 100 foot pine land on the house and almost on my head....

So glad you're ok...I know first hand what a scary thing that is. During Ike a tree fell on the house we were in. thankfully it didn't go all the way through but if it had it would've landed on some of us. And we were about 120 miles from the eye of Ike.

My heart goes out to his family. Unfortunate reminder that many trees and utility poles are unstable from ground saturation and battering winds....please don't rush out immediately after the storm had passed....it is still dangerous.

I see the eastward component back now. It's gonna be very close to the coast throughout. That due north motion made things more complicated.

Just got power back in Boiling Spring Lakes, south of Wilmington. Report i heard on the radio said Progress Energy has 1/4 million customers without power in eastern NC and that number is expected to go up as the storm churns along.

This storm seems to be a hybrid of Ike and Igor to me now.

The last 16 hours has absolutely been a whirlwind, I have never seen a hurricane close to this one landing on the US coastline in terms of being weird and fascinating. I agree with the Ike and Igor thing, Irene has both hurricanes in its DNA or something lol.

It's almost like Hurricane Irene has over 3 eyes and eyewalls and more possibly. Does anyone else have this suspicion? I have been watching Link: http://www.ustream.tv/channel/live-seve ... her-webcam for 12 hours now and it has been a wild ride to say the least. I posted before this was the best stream to watch for the hurricane around 5:30 am EDT. It was amazing to have sub 960 mb pressures for hours on end with hardly any wind or rain!!! Completely crazy and the storm chasers didn't even know what the heck was going on for the longest time. At some point he started questioning whether the entire hurricane is just one big eye! Just as he said though, there are a lot of questions with this one...
