I wonder if we will see a major tornado outbreak out of this?

I hope so too. Wait till tomorrow, depending on how many near-death experiences we have will directly affect how hyped-up your rescuers will be...

I got part of the eye yesterday here in Hope Town, Bahamas. Lowest pressure was 954. Winds were every bit of 115mph with higher gusts. I have more pics and video here

Re: ATL: IRENE - Hurricane - Discussion
Irene has been struggling with dry air entrainment all day it seems. The western side has taken the hardest hit.

Couldn't agree more!

I am watching where the tornadoes seem to be and looks like most are north. I forgot about the tornadoes.....damn the tornadoes! Wait, that's torpedoes. Oh well.
Just another thing to worry about in all of this.

Re: ATL: IRENE - Recon Discussion
Could you guys periodically elaborate the most significant findings (highest surface winds, lowest pressure, eye wall status, etc.) from the recon reports on this discussion thread? Ordinary folks just see a bunch of meaningless numbers on the recon thread but on the discussion thread if someone could once in a while spell out the latest reports that would be a big help to those looking for valuable information.

Re: ATL: IRENE - Hurricane - Discussion
Good evening all. Thank you for the great resource Storm 2K is Marshall. I apologize in advance for such a lengthy first post, particularly in such a critical time on the board.
First of all, my thoughts and prayers are with many of family and friends in Eastern NC - particularly in New Hanover and Hyde Counties. Those sentiments also extend to everyone else in the path of Irene in the days to come.
As a first time poster, like a few others who just spoke up, I felt compelled to login after many years of lurking around here during significant events. This community provides a great service and resource. I appreciate the information that can be found here and hearing the experiences of others as well.
I grew up in Wilmington, where much of my family still lives, currently live in Raleigh and am also fortunate enough to be blessed to have a family farm in Swan Quarter. Ironically, I was supposed to be on an annual fishing trip to the Pamlico Sound this weekend, but we called it off Wednesday after the models converged pretty tight and it became pretty clear what Irene was going to do.
Crazily, while only 32, I have been through Hurricanes Hugo, Fran, Bertha, Bonnie, Isabel, Floyd and a few others. During these different storms, we've had major tree damage, my parent’s garage knocked off its foundation by a 100ft oak tree, beach condo windows blown out, rich fertile farmland completely inundated with salt water, crops destroyed, etc. During Fran, a couple buddies and I made the “bright” decision to stay in sound front house on Wrightsville Beach. We decided at the last minute before the drawbridge closed for the storm to head back to our families homes in Wilmington. We returned to the house the following day to see an 8 ft water line throughout the one-story house…
I know all too well how lucky my family and many of my friends have been. Many other friends, neighbors and fellow Eastern NC folks unfortunately aren’t able to say the same and that is why I respect these storms immensely. I have witnessed their raw power in so many different ways. As sick as it may sound though, it kills me being here in Raleigh with my wife and young son watching on the tube and following online with everyone else.
While it is only human nature, it scares me to see many folks rather nonchalantly dismiss the impacts even such a "weak" storm can produce. One of the reasons I decided to post was to hopefully share just a morsel of my experiences and to reiterate the seriousness of a storm like this despite the seeming perception from some folks that it won’t be too bad. Particularly for those folks in the northeast, I sincerely hope complacency and lack of experience with these types of situation doesn’t result in avoidable loss of life and injuries. If anyone reading this lives in the path of Irene (especially those in coastal areas) and you haven’t been through a storm like this, please just get out. The water comes so fast in many cases that there is no time to react. By then it is too late. This is absolutely not something you want to learn the hard way.
God bless to all. Especially to those of you on this board tonight who are down east, stay smart and stay safe.
Thank you to all the pros out there who do their level best to keep us informed and able to make critical decisions that in many cases, really are life and death.
That is an impressive video Jim. Do you know of reports of damage or casualties in those islands?

I am watching where the tornadoes seem to be and looks like most are north. I forgot about the tornadoes.....damn the tornadoes! Wait, that's torpedoes. Oh well.
Just another thing to worry about in all of this.
Been married 25 years. I know that formula all too well

My prayers are with you all on the East Coast.
Not only is he an idiot, but he's spreading false information. He just said that the storm still might strengthen before NC landfall. Great.

Just like Jon Snow..."I know nothing" except what I know, and most of what I know is gathered by the fine people of the NHC

They said they would be on a few other channels on direct tv as well, but I forgot the numbers. That station is an ABC affiliate, but they also provide the news coverage on the local fox stations, so they may be on fox direct tv channel as well.
