It's completing another loop - hopefully (I hate when they do that - gives me the quivers):

P.S. Last evening Brian Norcross (TWC) mentioned that the trough had set up a bit more to the west - it'd be terrible if this hurricane fooled everyone and headed this way...

People need to stop focusing so much on the USA imo. A wobble to the west or sw matters for parts of the Bahamas. Comments like it still has plenty of time to turn north, obvoiusly is being referred for the US. How would you feel if it makes wobble to the west and you are in the bahamas (closer to the storm)? Exactly.

I see the word "fish" being tossed around a lot today. Please remind all that ever since her jump to tropical storm, Hurricane Irene has never been a "fish". Ask countless Puerto Ricans who have already faced her wrath or Bahamians who are either experiencing, or are currently experiencing this Category 3 monster.
Just because she has YET to make any CONUS impact doesn't make Irene a "fish" and calling her such really disrespects countless islanders.
Thanks!
Unfortunately, many members here, sometimes I am included; tend to think only in terms of the CONUS so if a storm avoids hitting the CONUS, especially a recurve to the East; we toss around the word "fish".
I really don't chalk it up to being insensitive or not caring about those in The Islands.
I just think that we just think in terms of the country we live in.

I long for the cool mid 90s. We've hit 100+ every day this month (without any rain) and may well extend our streak into September.
Irene may yet make landfall as a hurricane on eastern Long Island or eastern Massachusetts. And if I lived anywhere in eastern NC or SC I'd be keeping a close eye on Irene until it was safely past.

Any more west wobbles (without an immediate correction to the north) brings the core of the storm through the center of the Bahamas. Nassau would be decimated.

Disclosure. I trade stocks for a living. This would be very bad for your 401k

Bahamas is part of the British Empire Correct? Or is it US province like guam?
Bahamas is part of the british commonwealth like Australia or Canada, but I wpuldn't say that those countries are part of the British empire.
It's not really a matter of opinion. You're either independent or a colony, and the Bahamas is an independent nation.

My elderly neighbor told me something last night that gave me pause. I was talking with him about Irene. He is in his 80s', and was a good friend of my grandparents whom I inherited the house from several years ago, he told me if Irene takes the track through Cap Cod and then NE through our area of Passamaquoddy Bay at or near high tide (like the mets have seen saying) he'll be leaving Sunday to stay with family 50 miles inland. He told me unless you've been through storms like Edna 1954, Gerda 1969 or The Groundhog Day Gale of 1976 in his words 'you can't imagine what it can do'. He told me, as my grandparents had, that during those three systems the whole area flooded due to tidal flooding and the houses were on small "islands" for days. During Edna, the benchmark storm for this area, the ground floors also flooded. He went on to say storms like Bob were "nothing", in this area, compared to those earlier ones.
