Nicknames your kids or you hate!

#1 Postby Miss Mary » Thu Aug 28, 2003 1:33 pm

When I became a new mother I had decided not to call my kids any other name but their given first names. No baby talk either.

Well, I flunked in both departments!!!! And now my kids are 13 and 16. Most of the time I use their names, 95% of the time, but a nickname from their baby days comes out of nowhere and I get "that look"!

Just thought it might make for a funny thread to reveal what nicknames you have given your kids or other siblings have given them. Tack on your own nicknames, if you have one. Azskyman's spider thread and him calling the tarantula missy reminded me of one I've given Laura. If I ever really want to make her mad I just say - now listen here, little Missy...LOL. I do try not to do that.

I'll start......

Nina - Nina Bina (given to her by an uncle)

Laura - Laura Lou. Sometimes just Lou, which always warrants a strange look from strangers - how could you name that girl Lou? Also, Laura Daura (a Grandmother's influence). We were in rhyming moods back then.

I never got any nicknames, sniffle!

Well, I take that back. I always got the unwanted Carrot Top from people b/c of my hair. One day I got mad, I was about 12, and I was like " My hair is not the color of a carrot!!! If you have to call me something besides Jacki, call me Tomato Top! At least it's closer!" Well, that backfired.

Well, I don't have kids...so I just thrown my own in there.

Shawn-pawn-the-leprechaun. Used to get that as a kid. It's my name, I'm Irish, and short.

Just changed the title - thanks Shawn for bringing that to my attention, indirectly of course!!!

Jacki - I married a redhead and he heard carrot top growing up too. He hated that nickname. I imagine there's no one out there that likes it. When I met him I was using henna on my naturally brown hair. Trying to put in red highlights and he couldn't figure out why I liked red or auburn hair so much. Guess the grass is always greener on the other side. I still like red hair and had hoped one of my girls would have had red hair. No luck there. I do really like red hair!!! Honest.

When I was young, I couldn't stand it becuase there was not a single redhead in any of my classes! (Small town) Now, everyone loves it, and I see a whole lotta fake-red going around and it just makes me laugh! I loooooooove my hair, I wouldn't trade it for any other color! (I do put blonde highlights in it every once in a while.) It is also a family trademark thing too- really neat: I have red-hair, my bro has brown, my mom had red hair, her bro has brown, my grandma has red hair, and all of her siblings have brown, we are the only redheads! I really hope I have a red-headed daughter someday to keep the line going!

Jacki - You lucky Tomato Top! :P Man, red/auburn out of a bottle is so hard to get to look natural. I've been trying for years.

Growing up, my brother qualified for the Guiness Book of World Records as the biggest brat on planet Earth. Of his many names he had for me, the one that stuck the longest is "Dogna". He still writes that on my emails now at age 41 :D Some of his others were "Creepella" (from the Flintstones b/c I was so skinny), and Flipper (my long skinny feet).
His nickname is "Sid", named after the kid next door in Toy Story.

I was always the shortest in class so I was dubbed shrimp. One person I knew from kindergarten to graduation still calls me shrimp. When I told my grandfather about it, he called me shrimp too. I hated it at the time but I would give anything to have my grandfather back again even if he called me shrimp all day.

Ok..now my kids.

My daughter is Heather Lynn. She has been dubbed Heather Feather, Angelface and Lynny-lynn-lynn. I wont get away with the Lynny name much longer.

My son is Scott Andrew. He is called a huge variety of names. Scotty, Scotty Scoot, Scooter poot, Scooter, Tigerman, Bubby, and Booger Butt. He is 9 but still answers to any of these names.

On a side note, the other night my daughter asked me if she could have ice cream. I made her up a bowl and called "Lynn-Lynn" to let her know it was done. She walked by her brother taunting him with her bowl of ice cream. He came into the kitchen with a dejected look on his face and whined, "What about Andrew-Andrew?"

I guess thats a new name to add to the list. :)

Mine was ..get ready.... Igrat. My good ole brother-in-law pegged that one on me. I'm not sure how he came up with it but it stuck till I got old enough to fight back dirty.

And then there was Begga.

However my Cousin Janice had the worst nicknames on the planet given to her by her loving brothers.

Turd
Gi (short for gigantic stomach)

Oh freaky, I love Booger Butt!!!!lol And sniggle britchs is adoreable!!

Even though I'm scared silly by spiders, my nickname as a kid was Bugsy cause I wasn't afraid of bugs and was always playing with them.

My daughter, Tish and Tracy were and still are at times called Punkin and Sweetpea.

Alas....my poor 4'10" daughter. If I had known she was going to be soooo petite I would not have named her Bridget. She has always been called Bridget the Midget!

I also call her Piddles. She piddles around and gets nothing that I ask of her done!

growing up my mom and aunt would either call me TJ or TOJO. I don't have to tell you which one I didn't like. Also some kids at school would use speedy gonzales because I was short but pretty quick. I really don't use any on my kids but other people do , calling one B and the other one Syd for short.

Jacki, i'm a red-head too. Through my 10 years of school now, i've been called so many names it's not even funny. Atleast 60% have been offensive in nature too. Oh well. :?

my main nickname is my sign on name. It's short for Pokey Joe. I don't mind it, but my mom or dad will call me that. Many times, my brother and I call us whatever slips out of our mouths! Seriously...most of the time it's Dork or Brat! (there have been plenty of others) My dad calls me rat....I can't stand that nickname!

Let's see....

My aunt Violet's always called me "Purry Lee"; Dad has a bad habit of calling me "Pearly" :D
My 7 year old nephew Nick calls me "big guy"...LOL!

I was called some very unkind names growing up...like most fat kids I heard "fatty" and "lardbutt" more than a few times....but my true nickname in middle and high school was "weatherman" -- even my middle school teachers called me that :D
I was also called "frog" by an older friend of the family who drove a taxi...when I was in the 2nd grade, I carried several toads home in a jar from school in his cab, and the nickname stuck. He called me that as long as he lived.

Becky's always been "Sissy" to me....and "Suzie-Q" to dad and our uncles. I've been calling Beth "Bethyboo" since she was a baby.

My pet nicknames for Becky's kids are "Miss Madison" (Maddie); "Nickster" (Nick), and "Big Jake" (Jacob) -- but Maddie's dad calls her "Mad" all the time...which is quite humerous considering how laid back (mild tempered) she is....so is Nick. Jake is the one who inherited his mom's hot temper :D

My siblings gave me the nickname, Ter over fifteen years ago. :)

Two of their nicknames, were "Mer" for Maria and "Cer" (with a 'hard C') for Chris. My two other brothers couldn't get the nickname similar to the three of ours because their names are Mike and Matt. :)

When my kids were little my boys nicknames were Monkeyman for the oldest on and Buzzard Bait for the youngest. The youngest got his because he was a little mean after his brother and sister teased him till he wasn't fit for buzzard bait. Monkeyman came about after oldest learned to run and climb. I should have known he would have been called a monkeyman when I saw him right after he was delivered, all arms and legs and no weight. He weighed on 3 lb 7 1/2 oz but fully mature term baby.
Their sister 's nickname was Sweet T. Shoolmates gave it to her to aggrevate her. She was a brain in school and the boys didn't like that. She was not much of an athlete but she earned a letter in high school for academics.
