PUBLIC INFORMATION STATEMENT...CORRECTED
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE SAN JUAN PR
1044 AM AST SUN JUL 31 2011
...PERSONS IN PUERTO RICO AND THE U.S. VIRGIN ISLANDS SHOULD
CONTINUE TO STAY TUNED TO THE LATEST TROPICAL WEATHER INFORMATION...
A STRONG TROPICAL WAVE LOCATED ABOUT 650 MILES EAST OF THE LESSER
ANTILLES HAS CONTINUED TO BECOME BETTER ORGANIZED...BASED ON
LATEST INFORMATION FROM THE NATIONAL HURRICANE CENTER IN MIAMI...A
TROPICAL DEPRESSION COULD FORM LATER THIS AFTERNOON. THIS SYSTEM
IS MOVING TOWARD THE WEST-NORTHWEST AT 15 MPH AND HAS A HIGH
CHANCE...NEAR 100 PERCENT...OF BECOMING A TROPICAL CYCLONE DURING
THE NEXT 48 HOURS. MOST MODELS SUGGEST A FORECAST TRACK NEAR OR
OVER OUR LOCAL REGION.
TROPICAL STORM WATCHES WOULD LIKELY BE REQUIRED FOR THE U.S.
VIRGIN ISLANDS LATER TONIGHT. RESIDENTS AND VISITORS OF THE U.S.
VIRGIN ISLANDS AND PUERTO RICO ARE ENCOURAGED TO GO OVER THEIR
HURRICANE PLANS AND CLOSELY MONITOR THE PROGRESS OF THIS SYSTEM.
SOME IMPORTANT FACTS THAT YOU SHOULD KNOW ABOUT TROPICAL CYCLONES...
TROPICAL STORM/HURRICANE WATCH...TROPICAL STORM OR HURRICANE
CONDITIONS ARE POSSIBLE GENERALLY BETWEEN 36 TO 48 HOURS.
TROPICAL STORM/HURRICANE WARNING...TROPICAL STORM OR HURRICANE
CONDITIONS ARE EXPECTED WITHIN 24 HOURS.
DO NOT FOCUS ON THE LOCATION OF THE FINE FORECAST LINE ASSOCIATED
WITH THIS OR ANY OTHER SYSTEM.
A HURRICANE IS NOT A POINT ON A MAP. THE DANGEROUS EFFECTS OF A
HURRICANE CAN EXTEND SEVERAL HUNDRED MILES AWAY FROM THE CENTER.
IF YOU ARE WITHIN THE CONE OF UNCERTAINTY...IT IS WISE TO ASSUME
THAT YOU COULD EASILY BE ADVERSELY AFFECTED BY THE STORM.
NOW IS THE TIME TO TAKE PRECAUTIONS AND SECURE YOUR PROPERTY. THE
FOLLOWING ARE SOME SUGGESTIONS FOR PREPARING FOR THE STORM...
GROCERY STORES MAY SELL OUT OF ITEMS QUICKLY. STOCK UP ON
BATTERIES FOR RADIOS AND FLASHLIGHTS...CANNED OR DRIED FOOD...
DRINKING WATER FOR AT LEAST 5 TO 7 DAYS...FIRST AID SUPPLIES...
AND PRESCRIPTION MEDICINE.
GET CASH...AS CREDIT CARDS AND ATM MACHINES WILL NOT WORK WITHOUT
ELECTRICITY. ALSO...GET FUEL FOR AUTOMOBILES...GENERATORS AND
CHAIN SAWS.
AROUND THE HOUSE...STORE LOOSE ITEMS SUCH AS TRASH CANS OR YARD
FURNITURE. SECURE WINDOWS WITH SHUTTERS OR PLYWOOD. ENSURE
BATTERY OPERATED RADIOS ARE WORKING. MOVE BOATS TO A SAFE
LOCATION. TRIM LARGE TREES THAT COULD FALL ON YOUR HOME. MAKE
SURE VALUABLE PAPERS ARE SECURE.
KNOW WHICH LOCAL SHELTER WOULD BE AVAILABLE TO YOU SHOULD YOU
DECIDE YOU ARE NO LONGER SAFE FROM HIGH WINDS AND/OR FLOODING.
IF YOU MUST EVACUATE TO A PUBLIC SHELTER...REMEMBER TO BRING A
FIRST AID KIT...MEDICINE...BABY FOOD...DIAPERS...TOILETRIES...
CHANGE OF CLOTHES...BATTERY POWERED RADIO AND EXTRA BATTERIES...
FLASHLIGHT...SLEEPING BAGS OR BLANKETS...IDENTIFICATION...
VALUABLE PAPERS...CASH...GAMES.

Re: 91L - Our Friends in the E Carib, Please Report Conditions H
Hi Cycloneye -- I am over here in Rincon on the Western tip. Keeping a close eye on this and unfortunately have business travel monday - wed in the states and wife will be here on her own. If it looks like it is getting close I will obviously break off and fly back Tuesday but watching every update. I also have a weather station at my house and webcam that can be referenced for west coast conditions. Great posts and thanks for keeping us in the loop.

The western section of the system has reached us here in St Lucia, strong rain and winds after a few hours of being overcast. A few hours of this judging by Antilles radar.

AREA FORECAST DISCUSSION
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE SAN JUAN PR
1230 PM AST SUN JUL 31 2011
.UPDATE...ISOLATED AND LIGHT PASSING SHOWERS HAVE BEEN OBSERVED
OVER THE REGIONAL WATERS THIS MORNING...WITH NO SIGNIFICANT
PRECIPITATION OBSERVED OVER LAND. NO CHANGES WERE MADE TO THE
CURRENT FORECAST AS WE STILL EXPECT ISOLATED SHOWERS OVER THE
WATERS AND SCATTERED SHOWERS WITH ISOLATED THUNDERSTORMS POSSIBLE
IN THE AFTERNOON FOR THE INTERIOR AND WESTERN SECTIONS OF PUERTO
RICO.
AS FAR AS THE TROPICS GO...A WIND SURGE HAS DETACHED A PORTION OF
WHAT ONCE THOUGHT TO BE PART OF THE TROPICAL WAVE. NOW THE
TROPICAL WAVE BEING OBSERVED FOR DEVELOPMENT IS BEHIND THIS SURGE.
HOWEVER...THIS SURGE AHEAD OF THE WAVE SEEMS TO HAVE DEEPER
CONVECTION THAN THE WAVE ITSELF.
BUOY 41040 HAS REPORTED SUSTAINED WINDS OF 29 MPH ...GUSTS
AROUND 34 MPH AND SEAS CLOSE TO 12 FT. THIS DATA WAS RECORDED AS
THE DETACHED PORTION OF THE WAVE WENT THROUGH THE BUOY.
ALSO...BUOY 41101 EAST OF MARTINIQUE HAS REPORTED SIMILAR VALUES
WITH A MAX SUSTAINED WIND OF 26 MPH AND GUST OF 30 MPH WITH SEAS
OF AROUND 10 FT.
THE ACTUAL SYSTEM THAT COULD BE CATEGORIZED AS A DEPRESSION LATER
TODAY SEEMS TO BE STRUGGLING A BIT WITH ITS ORGANIZATION.
HOWEVER...AS IT GETS CLOSER TO OUR AREA...IT WILL BE OVER MORE
FAVORABLE ENVIRONMENT FOR DEVELOPMENT AND THE NATIONAL HURRICANE
CENTER STATED THAT IT COULD BECOME A TROPICAL DEPRESSION ANY TIME
NOW. WE WILL KNOW MORE WITH THE RECONNAISSANCE AIRCRAFT DATA LATER
THIS AFTERNOON. LATEST GUIDANCE CONTINUES TO TRACK THE TROPICAL CYCLONE
VERY CLOSE TO OUR AREA...MAYBE SLIGHTLY NORTH ON THE 12Z RUN THAN
THE 06Z RUN. THE 12Z RUN HOWEVER HAS SEVERAL MODELS TRACKING THE
CYCLONE JUST OVER PUERTO RICO...WITH THE CENTER OF CIRCULATION
MAKING LANDFALL AROUND PONCE AND EXITING THROUGH AGUADILLA...WITH
AN INTENSITY OF A STRONG TROPICAL STORM OR A WEAKER HURRICANE.

Re: 91L - Our Friends in the E Carib, Please Report Conditions H
Hi Gusty, despite being in the middle of the western blob, after 30 minutes of very heavy rain, wind gusts and virtually no visibility around 1.30 pm today, after 30 minutes it calmed down and we have had only minimal rain since then. I can look out of my window and see Martinique clearly so not sure what this system is doing or comprises of. Given the radar images I was expecting heavy rain for most of the afternoon. Any clues?

Had some pretty loud thunder last night after an overcast afternoon with light rain. The morning has broken partly cloudy and calm. Hope we get a good Kadooment Day.

Woke up to strong gusts and sideways rain but the rain is intermittent. It is cold though this morning. Feels as if something is brewing. Time for this invest to move on.

For Immediate Release: Monday, August 01, 2011/N209/ESF-8 – ANNOUNCEMENT 11.30AM
EOC recommends continued vigilance; System continues to show signs of development
GREAT BAY, Sint Maarten (DCOMM) – The Emergency Operations Center (EOC) on Monday morning continues to closely monitor the approaching tropical wave/low pressure system.
A recent hurricane center reconnaissance investigation on Monday morning revealed that the tropical wave does not have a closed surface circulation center, but did find winds of near tropical storm force.
The 10 Emergency Support Functions (ESFs) will remain on alert Monday and Tuesday.
The Department of Disaster Management (ODM) advises the population to continue to monitor the progress of the approaching Tropical Wave (TW)/low pressure system for possible further development.
According to the National Hurricane Center, if the system develops into a storm, tropical storm watches and warnings could be issued at very short notice for the Leeward Islands which includes Sint Maarten.
The ODM will continue to closely monitor this system for possible further development and the public will be duly informed.

Here is a reasonable source of some amateur (or pro) weather stations in the area of Martinique, and mostly south.

Our local radar is working now.

The weather here is definitely starting to change here. It's pretty gusty and we are having some light rain showers. Nothing much but the sun from this morning is mostly gone now
