What region will be affected first

#1 Postby hurricanedude » Mon May 30, 2011 4:07 pm

What US(lower 48 and Hawaii) coastal region will be affected first by a tropical system...either landfalling or fringe effects?
Vote 1 for Western Gulf from SW LA to Brownsville TX
Vote 2 for Central Gulf including AL,MS and SE LA
Vote 3 for Eastern Gulf including FL panhandle and the west coast of Florida including Keys
Vote 4 for East Coast of FL up Savannah,GA
Vote 5 for East Coast including SC, NC, VA
Vote 6 for East Coast from MD/ DE north to Downeast ME
Vote 7 for Hawaii
Vote 8 for No effects this season.

If someone wants to put this on as a poll that would be easier.

BTW I vote Central Gulf Coast.

Looking at the 1st area of the U.S. to be placed under a watch or warning (ts or hurricane) for the past 10 seasons, I would say #1 (Western Gulf from SW LA to Brownsville TX) or #3 (Eastern Gulf including FL panhandle and the west coast of Florida including Keys) are most likely - each was the 1st area impacted 3 times in the last 10 seasons based on NHC Watches/Warnings.

I wouldn't rule out #5 (East Coast including SC, NC, VA) either - it has been the 1st area impacted for 2 of the last 10 years. Vote #2 (Central Gulf including AL,MS and SE LA) and #4 (East Coast of FL up Savannah,GA) have both been the 1st impacted areas in 1 out of the last 10 seasons.

If you take the average of the dates below, the 1st time an area of the U.S. was placed under an NHC Watch or Warning each season was July 1.

First areas of U.S. covered by NHC Watch or Warning by season (and the date):
2010 (June 28 - Hurr Alex) BAFFIN BAY TO THE MOUTH OF THE RIO GRANDE

2009 (Aug 16 - TS Claudette) AL/FL BORDER EASTWARD TO THE SUWANNEE RIVER

2008 (July 18 - TS Cristobal) SOUTH SANTEE RIVER SC TO CURRITUCK BEACH LIGHT NC

2007 (May 9 - Sub-TS Andrea) ALTAMAHA SOUND GA SOUTHWARD TO FLAGLER BEACH FL

2006 (June 11 - TS Alberto) W COAST OF FL FROM BONITA BEACH TO STEINHATCHEE

2005 (June 9 - TS Arlene) DRY TORTUGAS (westernmost part of FL Keys)

2004 (July 31 - Hurr Alex) EDISTO BEACH SC TO CAPE HATTERAS

2003 (June 29 - TS Bill) SAN LUIS PASS TX TO MORGAN CITY LA

2002 (August 4 - TS Bertha) PASCAGOULA MS TO THE MOUTH OF THE MISS. RIVER

2001 (June 5 - TS Allison) SARGENT TEXAS TO MORGAN CITY LA
