Some property looks as if it was unearthed

I would rate the damage in Joplin worse than in Tusca.

I must agree that at least the areas that are being broadcast from are at least as bad as if not worse than Tuscaloosa and Birmingham. Not into comparisons here, just trying to wrap my head around it all again. The weather this year continues to be bizarre imo. As I told my wife, I wonder what is to come next? And I don't even want to think about the possibilities for tomorrow.

I don't even want to think but I have to about some of the nightmare scenarios, like an EF5 tornado hitting the downtown of a major city at the height of rush hour...

I can remember of the time around 1999. People back then questioned when a major city will be struck again. Astonishingly a City in Germany had an answer. Now after Parkersburg, Greensburg, Tusca, Joplin, and another town i forgot, it seems terror has gathered pace.

So why would people stay in a walmart store and die when the siren was blasting for 15 minutes?

Many probably believed it was a false alarm. It was only a radar-indicated tornado until about 5 minutes before it hit and was fairly weak until just before entering the city.

It was a typical Sunday night at St. John's Regional Medical Center in Joplin, Missouri -- until a killer tornado slammed into it. Afterward, patient X-rays were found 70 miles away ( CNN )

That reminds me of a flag from a OK Golf-Club that had been carried a similar distance ´99.

It appeared to first touch down around 5:35 pm, and was fairly weak until about 5:40, just before it hit the city. It was too late to issue a Tornado Emergency, as the first warning that had a confirmed touch down was when it was already in Joplin.
