Joe Bastardi leaves Accuweather

#1 Postby Ivanhater » Mon Feb 21, 2011 5:57 pm

I was in complete shock when I heard this.

Here is the statement from Accuweather

We are pleased to announce the promotion of Paul Pastelok to the role of leader of AccuWeather’s Long-Range Forecasting Team. Paul has been a key player in the Long-Range Team for many years and will continue our dedication to providing our clients with the most exceptional service.

Joe Bastardi has left AccuWeather after a distinguished 32-year career. We at AccuWeather appreciate Joe’s dedicated service to our clients over these many years.

AccuWeather’s commitment to your success remains our top priority.

The sound you hear is the number of accuweather pro subscribers falling though the roof.

Hard to believe it's been since 1977 that I've associated JB to AccuWeather. I recall the radio days on our local KTRH AM 740 when Joe Sobel would be out and JB would fill in.

Wow, that's a shock to the system. I hope he stays around somewhere, even though he's a bit crazy sometimes with his predictions, I've learned a lot about pattern recognition from him which he does a good job at doing. My bet is that his stance on global cooling had something to do with it . Anyone with that ideal these days seems to get ousted

He was not fired. Outside of that I don't really know. I don't have a bad feeling about it though, I think it was what he wanted.

Thanks for the update Jesse. I only used the Pro Site for Joe's blog and videos thus I cancelled the subscription this evening. It was a luxury.

Well, I appreciate that. Some people have taken this as an opportunity to attack us, which is unfortunate.

If he wishes to continue working, he'll have no problem finding a new position. Like him or not, he generates interest and controversy.

Controversy is not necessarily a good thing. If he's taken a job with a utility company or another private weather service, then we most likely won't hear from him again. Maybe he's gone to the San Angelo NWS office? ;-)
