Eyewitness reports snow in Cypress right now (Grant/Jones).
How can this be? I thought the air column above the clouds was well above freezing?
We've had snowflakes here in Bellville too, but I didn't want to say anything, I was afraid I was seeing things
You aren't...I guess -8C at 925 mb can do it.

Hammerly and Gessner area-Spring Shadows. Now down to 25.9F and still falling. I'm beginning to think they are going to have to lower the temps for tonight unless we don't clear like expected.

Hey just thought I'd say, I know were still in winter weather mode here in Texas, but with the weather expected to turn warmer this weekend it seems like severe season isnt too far off now. So Ive started a texas severe thread over in the USA forum for when the opportunity calls. Any speculation, questions, info etc for the upcoming season is welcomed.

Yeah. I just talked to someone directly across the street from the airport and they said they couldn't see any. They said they thought they saw light flurries about an hour ago, though.

Well, aside from a March snowdump, which is not unprecedented in DFW, maybe we can all return to being productive members of society. Thanks to everyone. I am continually grateful for the education and information provided over here.

Despite the record cold temps forecasted tonight, as I look around at the melting and drying ice I can"t help but hear "taps" playing in my head. Who knows when we'll see another shot at snow? Next winter is supposed to be cold....well, this winter was supposed to have more Fire Weather Warnings than Winter Storm Warnings. It is as it always has been - a crapshoot. Maybe I'll. Drive up to Fayetteville this weekend for one last chance to build a snow fort. Or maybe I'll just drive down to Galveston and enjoy the blowtorch.
It's about time for the debriefing on this event, isn't it? It looks like the models were spot on with the QPF and we just refused to believe it.

I am not a meteorologist, and any posts made by me are not official forecasts or to be interpreted as being intelligent. These posts are just my opinions and are probably silly opinions.

It seemed the models were trending north to OK late in the game, as well as the NWS. All in all most predictions had 1-3" or 2-4" at the most for DFW prior to the event. We got the 1" so it wasn't necessarily a busted forecast by the pros. Just my $.02. To me, a bust would be a cold night in 1986 when even the great Harold Taft called for 4". We all prepared for a snow day only to wake up to sunshine and the school bus. Lots of those real busts over the years, but forecasting seems so much better nowadays.

Regarding the models, it was actually quite the opposite. Most of us were buying into the models, which all were predicting at least greater than 0.25 inches of precip across the metroplex , and most were even predicting at least 0.40 inches. But they didn't even come close to verifying: For example, DFW GFS forecast last night- 0.41 inches, actual was 0.15 inches. Huge bust all the way around!!!
One of the lessons I learned from this event: For example, say you have a certain amount of precip forecast for a location. Most of us on here were thinking that a faster cold front would mean more of that precip becoming frozen. But it never crossed my mind that a faster cold front could mean that the mid and upper levels could dry out faster than forecast and would then cut into the QPF. And that is exactly what happened.
So many factors have to come together in order to get winter weather in Texas and the timing of those factors have to be almost perfect. That's is why I think that winter weather forecasting in Texas is one of the toughest jobs in the country and we were really fortunate to have the winter that we had.

Geez, it's cold! I was concerned about all of this (colder temps) when I saw negative readings in the Panhandle late yesterday. This could be the coldest night for me yet, even colder than last year's 19F at this rate.
And I thought after surviving last week this week was going to be easy - yikes!
I was out about an hour ago doing final preps and there were still a few flurries flying around, but it was light. Slowly clearing out here now.

I couldn't have said it better if I had a battery of script writers!! I do not envy the forecasters in TX when it comes to having to deal with Winter weather forecasts!!
