There's always next winter! Supposed to be colder than this year so you never know! Hard to believe how it could get any colder :P

I really have to agree with Jeff Master's at Wunderground...the warming on the North Pole may have had an effect on our weather this year.

The roads and pavements are a sheet of ice now throughout the metroplex. FW sitting at 15 and DFW is 16 and falling. So many times it's the grassy areas that looks bad, not this year.

Are you talking about stratospheric warming, adversely cooling over the pole? Or in general?

...WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY IN EFFECT FROM NOON TODAY TO 6 PM CST
THIS EVENING...

THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN HOUSTON/GALVESTON HAS ISSUED A
WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY FOR FREEZING RAIN WHICH IS IN EFFECT FROM
NOON TODAY TO 6 PM CST THIS EVENING.

AN ARCTIC COLD FRONT WILL MOVE QUICKLY ACROSS THE AREA LATE THIS
MORNING. TEMPERATURES WILL QUICKLY FALL TO BELOW FREEZING BY EARLY
AFTERNOON. ANY LINGERING PRECIPITATION BEHIND THE FRONT WILL
LIKELY FREEZE ON CONTACT WITH THE SURFACE. THE POTENTIAL EXISTS
FOR ICE TO FORM...MAINLY ON ELEVATED ROADWAYS INCLUDING BRIDGES
AND OVERPASSES. ICE ACCUMULATIONS ARE EXPECTED TO BE LIGHT. THE
PRECIPITATION IS EXPECTED TO TAPER OFF BY LATE AFTERNOON.

TEMPERATURES THIS AFTERNOON ARE EXPECTED TO DROP INTO THE 20S.
ACCOMPANYING THE FREEZING TEMPERATURES WILL BE NORTH WINDS GUSTING
BETWEEN 20 AND 30 MPH. THIS WIND AND TEMPERATURE COMBINATION WILL
CAUSE WIND CHILLS TO FALL INTO THE TEENS AND 20S. SOME LOCATIONS
MAY EVEN EXPERIENCE WIND CHILLS IN THE SINGLE DIGITS.

Dallas county is piling up accident reports. Best to just stay home and if you have to leave, go early.

Looks like there will be very little moisture behind the front across south-central and SE TX. Just a bit of drizzle most areas. Could be a tad of freezing rain AUS-CLL but with the howling NW winds, roads should dry off quickly this afternoon. Nothing in the Houston area but cold rain this morning. I just don't see much or any precip falling once temps drop to 32 and below by mid afternoon.

Up north, the NAM/GFS weren't too bad with the predicted 0.1" of precip across the DFW area. Probably only about an inch of snow up there.

wel we got dry slotted, we will only see light snow showers and some flurries for the remainder of the day. I do have a pretty good coating of ice/sleet on my street but the snow is light and dry/grainy

21F at ACT at 7AM (18F McGregor) , 27F Austin Mabry, and 16F Dallas.

Let's see if CLL can get to 32F by 9AM.

This current "winter weather event" appears to be a serious epic fail for D/FW and NTX as a whole. I, for one, am glad. Bring on Tornado/Severe Weather Season!

The roads are a sheet of ice and all of the schools are canceled. How is that epic fail lol? Ice rinks look more drivable than this!

Right? This winter and last have spoiled a lot of folks... A few years back, during the warm phase of the PDO - when the AWG folks were saying that by now snow would be a rarity, this would have been a big time weather event :D.
Heck, even in the 70's when folks were saying that we were headed for another ice age... it was pretty hard to get it to snow a whole lot here in DFW.

I'm guessing because the 2-4" of snow isn't happening. And the roads are better out here in Rockwall than last week. It's icy, but there's some traction. That said, I'm not driving on it. :)
