The front is continuing to pick up speed and is getting close to the metroplex. Now through Jacksboro . . . 29° in Jacksboro.

Follow the western-sectioned easterly winds. They are the leading edge of the arctic air. I don't know if I explained that well. It's a mid-layer airmass at the start, so surface winds will be easterly as the airmass begins infiltration. Then, as it deepens, low level winds will veer to the north.

With the wind advisory and predicted snowfall couldn't DFW see considerable blowing snow? Also tomorrow night looks to be very cold ... that 10 degrees is very close to single digits

If it snows, it will be accompanied by winds. Even though FW hasn't put that kind of wording in it enough, blowing snow will be an issue especially the N and NW sides.

Graham, Tx ..... 49 to 26 in 1 hour..

Putnam West, TX .... 52 to 23 in 1 hour..


Those sound more like drops that happen in Nebraska..

I'm sticking to my call. The area between Abilene and Wichita Falls will explode overnight. The heaviest snow bands should move long the Red River with OKC and DFW being the N/S boundaries of it.

SL = Surface Low.

I'm not seeing the storm recently move north, as others have suggested. If you look at radars, the SL is starting its own new radar trends that should affect areas from North Central to West TX & points East & South.

Also, the HRRR seems completely lost right now.

NTXW, I agree with you, but south of there, I believe there will also be major impacts, not yet really discussed by NWS.

I'm with you Ntxw. Look closely at the past few HRRR runs - the accumulating snowfall line is moving south and filling in with each consecutive run. It appears DFW will receive a pretty significant band of sleet/freezing rain behind the front between 2-3 am. Then light to moderate snowfall should pickup shortly thereafter and last until around noon.

CF moving SE at 20+ mph. Now located roughly along a line from Gorman-Palo Pinto-Lake Bridgeport-Forestburg. Less than 20 miles from here now.

ECMWF for DFW = 0.01 light rain, 0.23 transition (given the location of front and how fast temps are falling I will bet a lot of that is frozen, and 0.16 all snow in the low 20s).

All, please beware of areas near the surface low. This is not as easily identifiable but it is starting to rapidly develop precip, & based on current temps & atmospheric temps, it WILL have major impacts! Generally, I'm referring to points E, SE, & S of Abilene to San Angelo. across Central TX.

Moisture! Light rain at hwy. 360 and Trinity south of DFW airport.

Majority of that transition precip should be post-frontal...if I had to guess 75% is the frozen variety.

Look at that radar starting to blow up out west of Fort Worth to San Angelo. Same thing that happened west of Amarillo earlier. Looks good for the Metroplex I would think.
