NHC wants comments on TWO

#1 Postby Florida1118 » Wed Jan 26, 2011 10:02 pm

"The National Hurricane Center (NHC) issues Tropical Weather Outlooks that discuss areas of disturbed weather and their potential for tropical cyclone development during the next 48 hours. These products are issued every 6 hours for the Atlantic and eastern North Pacific ocean basins during the hurricane season. The Tropical Weather Outlook is issued in text and graphical form. The product has evolved during the past few years, with the first issuance of the graphical version in 2007, the introduction of categorical (low/medium/high) genesis forecasts in 2008, and the enhancement in 2010 of providing the probability of development in 10% increments in both the text and graphical versions of the Outlooks.

With these changes in mind, NHC is soliciting feedback from users on whether the current form, content, and time period covered by the Tropical Weather Outlook products meets their needs. Suggestions for improvements in the product are welcome, and you may submit the feedback form located below the following example."

I said it was good and the only suggestion I made was regarding the Archive of TWO's. I also said thank you for all that they do just to throw that in at the end. :D

I said how they should be flexible on the time period. Something that's about to form should have "a high chance of developing in the next 24 hours", so people can be more prepared for it. A TW in the Atlantic that has really favorable conditions (which they would say "conditions will be favorable in a few days") have "a medium chance of developing in the next 72 hours".

For all that are unaware, they also want comments on TAFB Proposed Offshore Zones.

Is there a way to change the TWO lines (circling the area of interest) to depict whether the system is increasing organization or decreasing? In this case, increasing organization would be the % numbers increasing. Perhaps solid lines for a system that went from 10% to 20% or 30% between the previously issued TWO and the current one, with dashed lines for ones with decreasing % numbers?

That would help in the event you miss a TWO or two (no pun intended), so you don't have to try to guess whether the chance of development increased or decreased.

Thanks, as always, for the great job y'all do!
