18Z NAM fully in now, here's a meteogram. Note that the 0.03" precip (last green bar) falls between noon and 3pm, not AT 3pm. This indicates precip is ending with the temperature in the upper 30s, as indicated by the red arrow. Also note 850mb temps (5000ft up) in the 42-43F range at 3pm. NAM is saying some cold rain then precip ends, things dry out quickly, and temps drop to below freezing at IAH by 3pm.

18Z NAM suggests a short period of rain changing to freezing rain and sleet. Note that the 850mb (5000ft) temp drops to 32 just as the precip is ending. That could indicate sleet, but probably not snow. Couldn't rule out a few flakes, though.

The problem is there are no real monitoring stations just to the N, NW, & W of Childress.

What data are you looking at, txagwxman? I'm seeing 2m temps 36-37 in that area for 18Z tomorrow. Those temps match the NAM forecast for 21Z tomorrow fairly closely though, but the precip should be ending by then.
