Give it another 30mins the band of Freezing rain, Snow, and Sleet will impact San Antonio to Austin (I-35) and will give you the most signifigant icing yet. What you have now should increase by atleast 1/4"-1/2 " of ice. Don't drive!!!

Just as I progged this band of ice/freezing rain is roaring into the I-35 Corridor with Austin getting the heavier precip atm.

Really worried and concerned for the Hill Country/CTX because of the ice.

Yea just now started. Light snow falling now, amazing to see it hit the windshield of my truck and just sit there. Looks like we won't get the most out of this band.

It's been snowing here for over an hour, got about 2 inches already, and it looks like we'll get another 2 or 3 before it's all over.

Any pro mets lurking? So what is going on with this snow? Where did the moisture come from? How rare is it to get this kind of snow in Texas being the high ratio and powder type? Is this a once in a lifetime type snow for Texas? Sorry about so many questions but this came out of nowhere and strong.

Are you not seeing the radar? Radars are better than models when an event is occurring.

According to KXAN, Austin is experiencing a Crash each 1-2 minutes. Unbelievable! Looks like a band coming from the South and West to merge right over Austin shortly.

I believe that. Here at our house the street just looks like a light dusting of snow, easily driven upon, when in fact it's white ice. From inside the house it doesn't look like there is anything currently falling - but those flakes/drizzles are really hard to see.

I'm getting big flakes, and it's sticking to everything...lol

ULL caused lift in the atmosphere and it rings out every drop of moister there is, and it dont take much to make snow in this cold.
This winter has been pretty rare with it being a La Nina winter, this is more of an El Nino type Winter since Jan 15.

Euro update, it is still showing snow next week (not the crazy numbers as of now) and another cold snap potentially in the deep freeze just like this one.

I only asked permission because I respect Pro Mets a very great deal & wish I was one. I have a degree but not in Meteorology, but I love weather & since the age of 6, I've done more research in that subject than any other. As the question was directed to Pro Mets, I will only answer if one says I can. They are free to correct me if I'm wrong anyway.

1-3 looks to be about 5-6 before it's done, got 3 already measureing from the hood of my SUV.

This thing has been unpredictable, no one knows until it starts falling. Euro and GFS have both done a poor job (though idk the snow maps for Euro maybe it did show 3 inches out of 0.03qpf lol).

Even the radars have been fail.
