Another one worth tracking down is Her Name Will Be Faith by Max Marlow (Amazon) . It's a big chunky disaster novel that seems to have been inspired by Gloria's near miss in '85. The fictional season starts off with five short lived hurricanes over a six week period and then a big Cape Verde storm comes up and passes right over New York...

I'd rather a small weak Category 1 hit or near miss and remove some of the older damaged structures in the area and open several eyes so that buildings can be made stronger and people will be more on their toes in the event of a stronger hurricane.

What cities are still overdue? I would say the top two are the Tampa Bay area and Savannah, both of which are very surge-prone.

Technically no since there were no hurricane-force winds in the city, but ask most people and they say they did. A direct hit by a smaller Cat 2-3 would likely have less surge anyway due to size and water movement (but much more wind damage).
