#1 Postby Air Force Met » Fri Aug 22, 2003 12:30 pm

Current Ob:

URNT11 KNHC 221714
97779 17144 60169 68718 03100 10028 21219 /0011 40930
RMK AF980 0109A INVEST OB 03

They are about 20 miles NE of where the LLC should be.

First thoughts: Only 28 kts and they are in an area of pretty good convection. Also...only 1011 mb. So...I would say if they find a circulation they will not find a tropical storm.

Still a west wind. 1010 mb's. They 10 am cdt was 16.4 68.6 so this ob is 30 miles west of the 10 am position. With a WNW motion this ob should be showing a southerly wind if there is a LLC. Either there isn't one or teh system has tracked due west since 10 am

Light and variable winds as far south as 15.8. There is no LLc near 16.5/69.4 due to the fact there is an east wind 40 miles SSW of that location.

Looks like they found nothing at the surface and are going up to take a look at the 5000' level to see if there is a circ above the sfc.

Yes. I think they are satisfied that there is nothing at the sfc so they climbed to 5000 to see if there is something to work downwards later today.
