Lots of near misses. It seems like the southern plains this year is the dead zone where storms go to die before they regenerate into a monster nearby. I know I am being pessimistic but I'm hopin!

That is wild. I do know that Tucson is expecting snow so it looks like it is pretty spot on.

Very impressive rainfall totals in southeast Texas which they sorely need. Unfortunately as usual much of it came too fast in a short amount of time which resulted in flooding, as they say all droughts ends in a flood.

Here's a big picture look at what's happening out west should it effect our weather.

I knew the rain was coming, but not this much! Rain just now coming to a close in SETX. It started in the Beaumont area around 930a and rained continuously till 730p! I'm now showing 3.03" total! Wow, we better be careful what we ask for! Love it, but not all at once! Sad thing is we need sooo much more!

Well it looks we have a fairly benign weather pattern coming up for the foreseeable future. When's the MJO expected to come around into phase 8? Any ideas? This place is getting too quiet considering the heart of the winter season is almost upon us

I believe the MJO is currently in Phase 5 and a forecast issued yesterday (see link below with detailed discussion) indicates mostly Phase 5 and possibly into Phase 6. No mention of Phase 7 or 8 at all. Those latter two would mean cold and wet for us in the Southern Plains.

I don't know about boring. Zonal flow (for now) with an active STJ. We're heading in the right direction, IMO.

If only we can get that PNA to go positive and not just less negative (that less negative has given us rain and change)! Just imagine all the fun we could've had/have in conjuction with the extreme blocking and a +PNA! Gah!

The winter is still young folks...Not even January yet! :D

Still plenty of time to try and get a winter fun event or two into the Lone Star State (south of the Panhandle, of course)!

I mean, after all, did anybody see snow in Tuscon (and a Winter Storm Warning in the foothills and mountains) during a La Nina winter? I sure didn't!

Well even in a bad winter there's usually a phantom blizzard shown by the GFS for us to drool over and feed our needs temporarily. Not much of that this winter either  nothing lately. Like how they say if it keeps showing it eventually one will happen, can't happen if it doesn't show it! Euro had one early Dec but that was a dud lol then GFS had one for new years with an AUS blizzard and 10ft drifts, that's about it.

I do think there's hope, I got a gut feeling something is brewing early January.

GFS 00z probably nothing but I see it's showing a little precip between 30hr and 36hr. It's probably not even reaching the ground, though.

The UKMET and Canadian (weaker on cmc) has it too. Probably is dying out as moves out of west Texas. I'm sure lack of elevation isn't helping the 'up-sloping' lol

Past the new year it does get wet again and possibly milder as a storm comes up from the tropics. Can we have another 70+ day in January? :cheesy:

Hey! We're not alone with the lack of winter, I read from Brett Anderson's blog at Accuwx that the eastern half of the Hudson bay has yet to be frozen! They're 'toasting' relatively there also with all the blocking.

Here we go, Bastardi getting on the train. The GFS has been showing 1052 MB highs, in the Northwest Territories for the past few days now 300+ hours out. Still very early, but if Bastardi gets on board like he is, i become more confident in a major arctic event actually occuring
