This is the general tropical discussion area. Anyone can take their shot at predicting a storms path.

Personal predictions for 2011

#1 Postby neospaceblue » Thu Dec 09, 2010 11:22 am

Since there isn't a thread yet, I figured I would post one.

Disclaimer: I am not a meteorologist. This is a personal guess that is not endorsed by any official agencies.

My prediction is 15/9/5. I came to this total by comparing other active seasons and the season that followed such as 1995-96 or 2005-06. I think we may see a hurricane make landfall on the U.S. mainland, likely somewhere between mid-Florida and North Carolina.

In my opinion, this is going to be a strange season to track, since it's hard for me to picture another storm with these names after the 2005 season.

22-13-7. five tropical storms will make landfall. 2 hurricanes and one major hurricane. 2004-05 were both active. Everyone should watch out for irene katia and rina. This season may get off to a fast start. Imo

VERY hard to say at this point. I'm thinking something similar to 1996, 1999 or 2004 may be in store.

My early prediction: 15/9/6. But I think it will be much worse than 2010 for the CONUS, especially the SE coast and W Gulf coast.

That is why the official Storm2k poll never has started so early. I am thinking of starting the 2011 poll on April 1rst instead of March 1rst to give more time to the peeps to think about what set of numbers the season will end up with.

Having said the above,my very very preliminary thinking is 15/9/5.

That seems reasonable. We need to see winter ENSO trends more than anything.

Probably a busy season. 14/6/4 would be the minimum in my opinion. If we are ENSO neutral or weak La Nina, those have been some of the busiest seasons since 1995.

13/9/6. 1995 also had 19 named storms and 1996 had 13 named storms so I'm gonna guess 2011 will have a similar number of storms unless 2005 happens all over again.

Too early to tell, but I guess 16/11/6 for now. Have to wait to April or March to see if were going to be Neutral or La Nina.
