The north and northeast side of the metroplex has clouded up quickly this afternoon. Looks like some light rain is starting to show up as well, though none of it may be reaching the ground yet.

Light rain is being reported in the northern parts of N Tx (Mostly Collin county) which is a little earlier than expected. CBS 11 said spotty reports of sleet pellets mixed in and looking at the yellow reflective returns on radar, certainly possible.

Longview, Tx is reporting light snow at 46 degrees not sure how that is happening but is nonetheless.

The area most likely to get snow is shifting to the big batch of moisture in east Texas/LA. The northern fringes are drying out. Once that heavy batch passes the region in east Texas, things will quiet down and end from what I can see. GFS did a pretty good job putting the moisture in Oklahoma then shifting to LA then has it leaving LA/MS into the gulf.

Wow..slow..nuthin'...it's so dry, looks like no precip for the next 7-8 days at least. Just uncomfortably cold temps...then if I'm correct in reading the models suggest a moderating pattern and we'll be back to "normal" in N. Texas in a week's time. Boring. I don't like cold/chilly unless there's frozen precip to accompany it. Give me 70's if it can't be exiting.

Another few days of the GFS and Euro showing nothing but dry and boring and I'm going to start the "Texas winter = cancel" thread! I'm telling you, I'll do it!!

I hear you Portastorm. My pastor urged everyone yesterday to pray for rain. Normally, I'd be wishing for snow this time of year, but at this point, I'm praying for any type of precip I can get.

Your pastor sounds like a wise man! Since the GFS and Euro aren't delivering, I think it may need to come to that (prayer to the good Lord for precipitation).

I did a full-blown hard freeze prep (well, almost full-blown -- let's say "orange alert" instead of "red alert")...

Anyway, covered all the plants and wrapped my tender palms in anticipation of 25 degrees (it had been forecasted to be 27; the 4PM update dropped it to 25 and *gasp*).

I Woke-up and I had a low of 30. I'm not complaining except most of the hard part (getting up on ladders and wrapping the palms) was totally unnecessary. Oh well...better safe than sorry, right?

I can't believe you had a low of 30f!! We were at 26.6f where I live in W Houston and I am sure we are in more of a heat island area than you are. Where is you sensor in relation to the house or other heat sources? I've put mine out in the backyard near the fence?(on top of my rain gauge pole).

Both of my thermometers are in the back yard at 2M under the shade (as far away from the house/pool as possible). It is usually consistent with readings in my area. I think the difference is due to elevation. My location and most others on the east side of IH-45 tend to be several degrees warmer than just across the freeway.

Here is a station in Oak Ridge a few miles from my house - they had a low of 30.1:

I am usually exactly one degree cooler than IAH (on calm, clear, winter mornings). They were at 31 so for me to hit 30 is pretty normal

i need to find a new place for my thermometer. Perhaps i should try on the fence like someone spoke of earlier. Daytime readings are accurate but below 45 degrees it shows a value a few degrees higher since it is near my house. Below the ledge on the fence sounds good so i can avoid most of the weather
