THE GRAND LIST OF STORMS IN THE ATLANTIC SINCE 1995!

#1 Postby HurricaneStriker » Fri Nov 26, 2010 1:11 pm

In my spare time, I decided to create a list of all Atlantic storms since 1995. (Year subject to change). You will not find a list like this ever so oftentimes on the internet. I am planning to stretch this list to 1950 and maybe even to 1851! Please notify me for any errors in the list.
This list is sorted by barometric pressure intensity.
Feel free to use this list for any purpose.

Legend:
Bold represents the strongest storm of that season.
Blue represents a tropical depression/subtropical depression*
Light blue represents a tropical storm/subtropical storm*
Yellow text represents a category 1 hurricane*
Golden text represents a category 2 hurricane*
Orange text represents a category 3 hurricane*
Orange-red text represents a category 4 hurricane*
Magenta-pink text represents a category 5 hurricane*

*I do not work on these colors immediately and some storms may not have a color. If I have time I will input the color legend into the list. Every time a new season(s) is added, the colors will reset to avoid confusion during editing. Then I can set the colors again in spare time.

Milestones:
Updated to 2000: November 26, 2010
Updated to 1995: November 27, 2010

Updated to 1990: Goal of 12/28/10
Updated to 1980: Goal of 12/1/10
Updated to 1970: Goal of 12/4/10
Updated to 1960: Goal of 12/5/10
Updated to 1950: Goal of 12/11/10
Updated to 1930: Goal of 12/13/10
Updated to 1900: Goal of 12/19/10
Updated to 1851: Goal of 12/26/10

Notes: List is currently right on schedule. To be complete by at least December 26, 2010 or New Years 2011. :)

Edit Log:

(November 26, 2010)
Edit 1: Changed Tropical Storm Fay from 2009 to 2008
Edit 2: Added a legend and color to the list
Edit 3: Corrected the white color of Hurricane Lorenzo (2007) to yellow to show category 1 intensity.
Edit 4: Changed "Unnamed Subtropical Storm (2000)" to "Unumbered Subtropical Storm (2000)" because subtropical storms were not named during the time. Also corrected typo (Unamed to Unnamed). Added this edit log.
Edit 5: Added more to asterisk quote. Added my opinion.
Edit 6: Addition Package: Added storms from 1995-1999 hurricane seasons. Colors however are reset.
Edit 7: Changed intro. Added Milestones.
Edit 8: Edited the Milestones section.
Edit 9: Edit milestones and added more color to complete.

Opinion: I think Storm2K should put this on the Tropical Center page. It would act like a list so guests and users can look at all the storms recorded in the HURDAT listed by intensity. :D

 You worked a lot, the only error I could find was that it says Fay was on 2009 and it was on 2008.

Why was Danny from 2003 so mismatched? Were the pressure gradients off?

And also, thanks for this list! I've wanted to do various trivia and I feel inspired off of this!

Unumbered subtropical storm was the strongest not hurricane. Hurricane erin was the weakest cat 3. Hurricane alex was the strongest cat 2. Danny was the weakest hurricane. Hurricane was the weakest cat 4. Igor was the strongest cat 4. Wilma was the strongest cat 5. Emily was the weakest cat 5. Josephine was the weakest tropical storm. How can a depression have a pressure of 1016 in 2003 same with danny that year?

Why was Danny mismatched? Look here:
Hurricane Danny (NOAA) wrote:Since Danny had developed at an unusually high latitude, the cyclone was embedded within a higher than average surrounding environmental pressure field. When Danny first became a tropical storm, its outermost closed isobar was 1024 mb - about 12 mb higher than average - and its center was located within about 350 n mi of the center of a 1031 mb high pressure system. This is not unprecedented and a good analog to Danny would be Hurricane Frances of 1986. Like Danny, Hurricane Frances developed at a fairly high latitude and within a higher than average background surface pressure field, and remained surrounded by above average pressures throughout its lifetime. Frances developed an eye feature in visible satellite imagery and later that same day a reconnaissance aircraft investigating the cyclone found flight-level winds of 75 kt and a surface pressure of 1000 mb

Yes, that would be high pressure. It is an extreme anomaly. It was in an area of high ambient pressure. Danny (2003) also has the highest pressure for a hurricane.

That was the OUTERMOST closed isobar (1024mb). Central pressure was near 1000mb.
