The western eyewall looks to be coming onshore right now and a complete landfall is probably an hour or so away from now.

So it seems like the Atlantic will lose that infamous record.

Speaks to how incredible the Labor Day Storm was that it took this long for a typhoon to unseat it. Incredible hit for the Philippines.

Wow, that is the exact location I marked as landfall on the 15th.. This has been one of the most accurately forecasted storms (for track) by all agencies.

I'm still trying to comprehend that I'm watching the strongest landfall in recorded history happen right now. Hopefully the worst misses the populated areas.

as noted previously, look like the coastal town of Divilacan did indeed get the right front quad eyewall.

Do we know the windspeed at landfall?

We should archive this thread for sure.

If it was 885 mb at landfall, it would be the most intense ever recorded to make landfall. This beats the 1935 Labor Day Hurricane.

If it was recorded it would be. Problem is, there's no observer at Davilican to take an ob so it won't qualify. I'm reading elsewhere that there was some sort of ITOP RECON going on for this storm - had a VORTEX message with 890 MB prior to landfall. Guess there would be some argument for a record landfall intensity, however I'm reading that there was some small degredation in the the satellite presentation leading up to the time of landfall - still...no dropsonde or baro reading at landfall point, no record. Record or not, this is gonna be an utter disaster for those in it's path.
