I notice Gaston is more on a westerly track than Danielle, Earl, and Fiona. Also, it is further south. It is possible it may end up in the Caribbean. I would not be surprised if it becomes a major hurricane in the next few days.

That is more south of the 11 PM position of 13.4N.

Not to sound alarm bells yet, but this has the potential to be "the big one" for the Caribbean, Florida, and possibly the GOM.
A storm steadily strengthening moving mostly due west for days with a strong high building north of it by days 4 and 5 near the time it reaches the edge of the caribbean. Not good.

On a side note, today is the anniversary of Gustav hitting south LA. Hmmm, Sept 1st Gustav-Gaston, could be a caribbean cruiser with potential for getting in the gulf. Something to watch. Looks like we are in for a long couple of weeks.

Yes it is going to be a couple of long weeks tracking Gaston. Looks like the Hurricane Center has Gaston pointed toward the Caribbean with an increase in speed on days 4 and 5.

That's my big fear and I think you're right. I have intuition one of them is going to get us. That may not be as scientific as forecasting and models but my intuition on hurricanes has never been wrong yet

That would be the most destructive track and like many have said, this would be a David type of track.

No one knows for sure at this point - way too early. Any hurricane can be destructive to those who are in it's path.

Perhaps a stupid question, but how long does a cyclone normally (estimated) take to cross the Atlantic? How long to the Leeward Islands? How long to Havana/Cuba (assuming it goes there)? How long to Fl? Or to GOM? Anyone have rough estimates?

We're probably looking at around 7 days to the islands and maybe 13 to 15 days to Florida/GOM if it headed in that direction.

Thanks RL3AO. So it would be at least 8-10 days before we could get even close to accurate predictions of it's path beyond the islands then. Lots of nail biting in-between!
