Fiona just about holding it together still but not much more till it gets absorbed...well done to the GFS which we alot of us openly mocked!

our enthusiasm for exciting times led many of us to hug the euro and in this case it was a terrible solution

Re: ATL: Tropical Storm FIONA - Discussion
It seems to me that Fiona is still heading west into the Caribbean, not north of it.

If Earl really is speeding up Fiona may have a chance afterall. I guess he isn't in to "Fatal Attraction".

Is it me or does she look a little better organized? We still haven't gotten our power back all the way in St. Thomas, and this could just delay it if she comes our way...

Well for the the short term I have to agree. It looks like Fiona may keep her identity for at least a little while. She is almost putting herself in a cocoon. Notice the closely clustered convection near her center. As Earl pulls north, she might just survive the trip to the west.

looks like the early GFS runs "eating" Fiona may not come to fruition. It hasnt made the move to the northwest. It looks like it may survive a while longer. Ide still bet it gets caught up following Earl, but time will tell.

I'm sure the satellite appearance is misleading, but it looks like Earl is moving a little faster this evening not allowing Fiona to get to close.

Looks like part of Fiona is getting absorbed into Earl , while the sourthern convection continues west. The question is where is the circulation center if there is one?

Re: ATL: Tropical Storm FIONA - Discussion
Convection appears to be firing pretty hard in the southern quad. Hopefully the center of circ is what is being absorbed on the north end. http://www.ssd.noaa.gov/goes/flt/t4/loop-rb.html

Re: ATL: Tropical Storm FIONA - Discussion
NRL had her LLCC at 16.3 north which really looked close based on last visuals before sunset. I don't think that circulation was anywhere near the northwest quad of the storm... She looks to be on the same due west course that she's been on all day... when she gets to about 62W and she's still going west we can announce "Houston, We Have Separation".

Is the LLC under the deep convection blob or is it on the north side of the blob getting sucked into Earl?

Well if it's under that deep convection then that last frame reminds of the movie Shining..."Here's Johnny!"
