I'm sorry to be an idiot (usually a committed lurker here), but what does RI stand for? I suspect you have had that question in the past many times, but bear with me.

Also, how concerned I should be living here in Chesapeake VA?

It would maybe help if there was a glossary somewhere so the lay folks could decode the acronyms or may I suggest that folks just spell it out. Otherwise this forum becomes more of a "club" of a few hard core cane trackers than a forum for the masses.

A glossary is a good idea. However, there are plenty of people here that are more than willing to help, as Evenstar found out. There are no dumb questions.

barbuda is about to get the southern eyewall.. over the next few hours..

My Atlas has "Antigua" next to Barbuda and "Barbuda" next to Antigua. The close southern core pass will be on Barbuda. I'd love to have live reports from there on this site tonight.

If it doesn't pull up Anguilla will have a harder hit.

At this point, Anguilla might be headed for a direct landfall.

Definitely a WNW motion and deep convection trying to wrap the center can only lead to deepening. The deepening along with the fact that Earl is now getting close to the edge of the ridge extension he could start gaining some latitude overnight!!

Still, the islands are in for some rough weather!!

I'd say upgrade Barbuda to the southern eyewall now.


No matter what it does from here I'm sure Barbuda, Anguilla and St Martin, and the northern British Virgins are hunkering down for a hurricane!

Could be a strengthening Cat 3 right into Anguilla and St. Martin. Luckily their buildings are quite sturdy.

Even at this eleventh hour, I don't believe Barbuda will get hit by the eyewall. But as I stated earlier, they will certainly get nasty weather.
