Continued Advice Requested: Cruising 9/4/10 Port Canaveral

#1 Postby SeaBrz_FL » Sun Aug 29, 2010 5:50 pm

We knew that booking any Carib cruise in Sept was risky, but we have a family tradition of celebrating family 50th birthdays on cruises and my sister's 50th is on Sept 8.

Four of us are local (Cape Canaveral/Cocoa Beach) and the other three are from Portland, Maine. They will be flying next Friday, 9/3/10 -- Portland, LGA (3 hour layover), MCO.

Obviously, I'm getting a little worried about all the active storms, so I am asking for your input. Our cruise schedule is:

9/4 - Leave Port Canaveral
9/5 - Day At Sea
9/6 - Cozumel
9/7 - Belize
9/8 - Roatan, Honduras
9/9 - Costa Maya, Mexico
9/10 - Day At Sea
9/11 - Home Port Canaveral

From reading the discussions and looking at the models, I am thinking that the Portland/LGA family may encounter more impact from Earl rain/wind up north (on 9/3/10) than we will here in Central Florida, but hopefully not enough to create flight delays. Just getting them here will ease most of the anxiety.

As for future-Fiona, well we may have unknowingly purchased much more fun hurricane evac arrangements than we normally do. This is counting on Fiona to continue on some of the 240+ hour models (~9/7/2010) and the fact that we will be way deep into the West Carib at that point.

For those of us that live on the Canaveral/Cocoa Beach barrier island, we need to decide by this Wednesday whether to put up our shutters or not.

I know that the models are changing constantly, and it's very early to predict 9/4 - 9/11, but I respect the expert advice here and appreciate all input.

Thanks very much,
SB
